    1. Is there a way to show the MIDI mapping, including the MIDI In/E-Drums setting re-mapping, in the main screen? It would be very useful to keep track of all the remapping.

I assume ‘main screen’ refers to the Drums tab? In that case the answer is no, not at the moment. Your suggestion is noted though.

    2. Also, is there a way to set MIDI to everywhere show both note # and note value simultaneously?
    – in the MIDI Mapping Keys box of the main window (and again, show the re-mapping for MIDI In/E-Drums here as well)
    – in the MIDI Monitor box
    – in the Analyzer window of the MIDI In/E-Drums window

Not in MIDI Mapping keys. Both note/CC and velocity/value should be visible simultaneously in the MIDI Monitor (Drums tab) and in the Analyzer (MIDI in/E-Drums settings).

    3. Is it possible to have the MIDI keyboards and note number lists all be in the same direction (ideally always with lowest note number at bottom, to match the piano roll in Logic and other DAWs)? The keyboard in MIDI Mapping Keys does follow this direction, but the one in the MIDI In/E-Drums window is relatively upside-down.

The directions are currently fixed. Once again your suggestions are noted.

    Thank you!

May I ask you to describe a situation where you like to be able to do this? It would help me improve the design Smile

    Why would you need it?
    When would you use it?
What would you do with it?
    What steps would you take…?

    Thank you!

    Dear Andreas,
Thank you for the reply and interest.
This problem arises often for me, because I use both E-Drums (Roland V-Drums) and keyboard to enter and edit drum MIDI parts, even within the same project. I go back and forth between the 2 input methods, as well as editing visually in Logic’s Piano Roll. All is fine when playing V-Drums. Problems arise when editing at the computer via MIDI keyboard or visually. (This issue arises every day for me.) At that point, there is no quick way to know which sounds are mapped to which keys, because of the E-Drum re-mapping. I either have to rely on faulty memory (not a good idea), guess, play random keys on the keyboard until I find it, or go digging in the E-Drum remapping window.

The MIDI Mapping keyboard box only shows Superior Drummer’s internal mapping, not the E-Drum remapping, so it is not correct at that point. For example, if I want to change the V-Drum-played hi-hat part from tip to edge, I need to know the correct note number for edge hi-hat trig. The mapping shown in the MIDI Mapping Keys box is misleading, since it does not include the E-Drum re-mapping happening “behind the scenes”. I would like the option for that MIDI Mapping Keys window to show the actual final key I must play to get a certain articulation; that is, it should take into account the E-Drums re-mapping.

I hope that makes sense…I can attempt to explain further if that was confusing. I confused myself.
    Thank you again.

    Best regards.

“The MIDI Mapping keyboard box only shows Superior Drummer’s internal mapping, not the E-Drum remapping, “

    Agreed.

I’m trying to map a Yamaha SDX900 using Cakewalk Sonar to record the actual MIDI notes, and SD3’s screen doesn’t agree.

Ultimately, this new SD3 mapping may be much more flexible, and result in a more “real” end result, but one would think the Toontrack defaults would be much closer, as they were in SD2 and even EZ Drummer (according to another here in the forums).

I’ll keep trying, but it sure wouold be nice to have a PDF manual to use as oppsed to having to go online while trying to figure this all out…

FYI there is a manual if you go to the help section of SD3, but it is not in PDF format. But there is more info than just the forums, if thats what you meant 🙂

    elgrayso –
Since I do not have SD3 running on my iPad, it’s a bit difficult to open that help file! 😉

Though, my iPad can open a PDF just fine.

Can your iPad open a weblink? ?

    Yeh, that’s cute too.

If I’m here in the studio, I am fortunate enough to have a second PC to dedicate to the online manual, while I work with SD3 on the DAW PC.

I get the impression that many would choose to have a manual AND SD3 open, without either having to be online, or switching betwixt the two.

And according to TT support, and from what I’ve seen in the forums, I’m not the only one asking for a PDF…

But, like everyone else, I will make do while I come to terms with the new features.

    Thanks Scott.

A PDF version of the manual has been requested and Toontrack is evaluation it’s merits.

It wasn’t clear that you knew there was a link accessible from your iPad in your post, actually, it seemed quite the opposite, and my jovial reply was just trying to keep with the lightness of your post.

I apologize if my reply rubbed you the wrong way. It was not my intent.

No worries Scott – and no need to apologize.
I started that cuteness, so you are fine.

Trust those that are asking – the PDF has merit!

With a mobile device, I cannot always get a signal, but I can always review a PDF.

I have read and re-read the MIDI section on the hi-hat, and after three or four evenings am no closer than day 1.

    I’m missing something.

Having the PDF, or printing out those pages will let me look for that missing piece without having to log into my
account every time I need to sift through the information.

As I mentioned – I will continue to log in like everyone else whilst trying to find the answers.

    Respectfully,

I am using a Behringer Motor 61 and I cannot get it to show up in “MIDI Devices” in the standalone version of SD3, even though it exists in the AudioMIDI page and the keyboard works fine with Digital Performer. I just updated SD3 so hopefully it won’t crash when implemented in the Drum Editor in DP9.5 like it has been. I will try to see if the results are different with the in app version and report back. P.S. Rescan Devices doesn’t help either and the Motor 61 is not sending MIDI info when using the Learn function either. I am connected to my MacBook Pro using the USB A out on the Motor 61 to an USB 3.0 hub on the Mac.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You are not going to believe this but I found out how to make the keyboard work. When I pull up the “MIDI Devices” menu in the stand alone version there are three listings:
    1. IAC Bus 1
    2. blank with checkbox
    3. blank with checkbox

It occured to me that there are two assignments for the Motor 61, one port for MIDI notes and one for Transport control.

So I thought, maybe the two blank ones are the Motor 61…so I checked both of them and Boom Shankar, it worked and SD3 started accepting MIDI from my Motor 61.

Well there is one bug up for consideration in the next revision of SD3.

    …

We’ll have a look at it. Thanks for the feedback!
