I am attempting to lay in my snare swirls with the Jazz EZX pack but I am having difficulty getting them to sound correctly. I am using the muted snare hit as Scott suggested and I can get the swirl placed where I want it for the first measure. I then copy and paste the swirl into the next measure but it will not sound the same as the first. It’s either too loud or truncated. This is with all parameters of the hit being equal.
I realize I am probably not understanding something about how the swirls work, but I can’t figure out what it is.
Help much appreciated and Merry Christmas!!!
The first thing I would do is find a brush swirl groove in the MIDI groove section and drag it into your host. Then, open that groove in the MIDI editor and take a look at how the swirls are programmed. They are not just one swirl at the beginning of the measure.
When I program swirls, I just drag a swirl MIDI groove into my project and copy the swirls MIDI only (MIDI note 67, 66, and 39 depending on articulation) to a new MIDI event and start programming from there. Personally, I wouldn’t bother trying to program the ‘swirl’ part (it’s already done in the groove library for me) and just use the pre-programmed swirls (copy/paste just the swirl MIDI).

Another trick is to use a separate instance of EZDrummer just for the swirls.. that way the other articulations won’t mute the swirls… you can use another artic at zero velocity on the MIDI Track to mute the swirl as desired.
Listen to the last demo here on this page to hear this technique (which uses an XDrum in Superior for a similar method):

How are the Platinum Real Jazz files used with EZDrummer or Superior ? There is no mention of how on the Real Jazz web page or in the FAQ.
The Steve Ferrone groove library says it is formatted for Superior. Is there an update that allows Real Jazz files to work too in Superior?
What is an XDrum ?
Thanks
Currently Real Jazz is only available for TT as GM, we’ll be updating that as a free download.
in Superior you can use XDrums to load additional drum pieces (from the same or different packs) into a kit so you don’t have to run multiple instances to increase the kit.

Thank you Scott and Platinum for the suggestions. I had to forego the swirls on this particular project because it needed to be completed on a deadline but I look forward to trying out these techniques. Love that swirl effect!
Is there any news on the Real Jazz update for TT mentioned in December?
Would like to buy it, but not sure how it works with TT to get sounding right.
