I want to play some higher notes and EZbass decides to play them on the higher strings – but I want it to stay on the current string and to go up the frets instead. Is there an option or workaround for that?

    Hi,

as stated earlier here in this thread, EZbass libraries are not sampled with all notes on all strings (it would greatly increase the library sizes and RAM needed), so even if you can hit the same ‘D’ on 3 different strings on a real bass, this isn’t happening in EZbass. The visual representation of the played notes is kind of the same as when you hit a Snare note in EZdrummer 3/Superior Drummer 3; you do not see if it’s the left or right hand hitting it or how hard it is hit. It just lights up as a visual representation.

Requests for future versions of the software and libraries are always welcome in the ‘Requests & Feedback’ section of the Forum.

With all due respect, this is not at all about the visual representation. The issue is that there is a significant sonic difference when playing the same note on different strings.

Had I known this limitation, I would have never bought the instrument. I should probably have done deeper research, but I simply did not expect that the maker of a stringed instrument vst would take such a shortcut. It is the main reason why I am not using ezbass any longer.

same reason i only use the EZ products (except organ) as MIDI sources and then use other instruments (like my Ample basses for example) as they let me more correctly define which string i want to use vs synthetic sample-based generation.

With the amount of attention and replies this thread has gotten, I would be very shocked if they DON’T implement this in the next version (meaning 1.5 or 2.0, whichever comes first).  It WOULD be nice if someone from TT chimed in again and acknowledged all this.  But they do listen to their users.  I feel like it’s coming.

    Hi,
Requests & Feedback is always welcome and encouraged but future products or current product enhancements are never commented/speculated about here in the Forum by any TT official.

    My personal 2 cents:
Implementing a new feature in the software will not automagically bring in new samples, which would be needed for string selection (quite a large amount!).
The product mentioned above, which is targeted at another user base than EZbass, has bass libraries that equals the entire EZbass catalogue in size, just for comparison.
If Toontrack would go for such a software enhancement, it would require new libraries and with that a precarious situation with previously released libraries. It would be strange if you had such a feature in the software but the EZbass users had to beware when shopping to expand their bass sounds arsenal, so that they didn’t buy a library created before that feature implementation.
IMHO, it would be a “Superior Bass” and then it would be kind of OK that you can load EZbass libraries but they are limited in comparison, much like the situation with Superior Drummer and EZdrummer. You can load the EZ v1/v2/v3 libraries  in Superior but not the Superior libraries in EZdrummer.
Again, this is my personal view on the topic and I’m just a Technical Advisor here on the Forum.

Much appreciated reply, John!  Backwards compatablity with existing EBX’s is certainly a very valid concern. Enough of a concern to never implement this highly sought-after feature though?  That’s certainly something the TT Product Managers would have to make the ultimate call on.

The idea of Superior Bass (and yes, John, we will now go spread the rumor that Superior Bass is coming and cite you as the source… J/K! :), would be exciting, but, I feel like EZBass already covers SO much ground and is such a great product, and that this force string ability is truly the ONLY thing missing.  Which leads my small brain to think, what other possible things could be added to EZBass to warrant a new product line, i.e. Superior Bass?  That’s a rhetorical question, and again, I’m not an innovator of music software, so maybe there’s all kinds of stuff I’m not thinking of!

Anyway, thanks again John for chiming in.
