I have just installed SD3 and it says “Could not find any sound libraries”
I have installed the sound libraries on an external drive which is plugged in.
I have pressed ‘Open Settings’ and ‘Add Library Path’ and chosen the correct location.
It doesn’t give me a confirmation or anything, but IF I choose the WRONG location it says ‘no sound libraries found..’
So I’m assuming because of the lack of that ^ message that it is correct.
However it still says “Could not find any sound libraries”
How on earth do i fix this? I paid $600AUD + for this program and it can’t even work.
Somebody give me an answer please.
I just went to check and it deleted the entire core sound library that took me hours to download wtf??

Exactly what do you think deleted the core sound library? Was the drive you supposedly installed the core library to plugged in and turned on? How healthy is the drive you installed the library to? The drive may be failing. It may also have gone into sleep mode. How is that external drive connected to your computer? Did you follow the correct installation steps for the core library? Hundreds of people have installed and use SD3 without the problems you are supposedly having. Which leads to either pilot error or hardware error. The installation program is pretty foolproof IF you take your time.
Side note: You may want to get a separate external drive to put all your downloads on. That way if/when you have problems and have to reinstall you have what you need to hand and don’t have to wait on re-downloading stuff again. I have a 4TB external spinner drive that gets all my downloads. Has saved my hide many times.

Are you using Toontrack Product Manager to install SD3 and the sound libraries?
If yes, have you changed the download location in PM settings/preferences? If yes, what location did you change it to? And if yes, what location (drive and folder) did you install the sound libraries to?
Mac Studio M1 Max, RAM 64 GB, 1TB Drive, OSX 12.x/13.x and Windows 10 (VM)

Yes yes and yes.
I am using Product Manager, and yes I changed the download location to a folder within my external drive.
All the libraries were there, it still wouldn’t detect them even after diverting the library path there.
And then after launching it a couple of times it deleted the entire contents of that folder.
I haven’t modified anything at all I’ve just followed the download instructions from the product manager and this has happened.
The drive is brand new.

As Brad has alluded, after downloading the sound libraries,
they must be ‘installed’ (best by using the Product Manager) to their working location.
The DOWNLOADed files are not functional until they are installed to their working location.
THAT location will be the one to which you will point SuperiorDrummer3.
They are (almost) always 2 different folders.
Typically, the DOWNLOAD location and the working INSTALLATION location might even be on different drives
because of the size of the files.

To add to Scott’s response, if you’ve opted to “clean up” your downloads, using the button in Product Manager, you will have essentially deleted the files you’ve downloaded.
Additionally the download folder and the folder you “install” to, by pressing the install button in PM, can not be the same.

You only have yourself to blame as apparently you never actually installed the libraries.

Ah yes I didn’t install them. My bad lmao
Thank yall for your patience
Is it absolutely necessary that the installation location and download location are separate folders?

Not necessary but recommended. You do know that the MacOS has a folder in the Dock marked just for downloads right? That’s normally where downloads should go and you don’t install stuff there. As an FYI the samples for SD3 don’t have to be in the same folder or even drive as the program itself. Just tell the Installer where to put them and make sure that SD3 knows the location. People with large amounts of sample libraries tend to have a separate drive just for samples.

This is an older thread but the information is valid. John from TT explains the concerns of not having a different folder for downloads and another for installed sample libraries even if they’re both on an external drive; https://www.toontrack.com/forums/topic/a-nervous-free-up-disk-space-question/
FWIW I have my downloads on a separate external Sata SSD and SD3 Samples spread across 2 M.2 SSDs.
