New releases and tons of deals – all centered around one of our favorite themes: rock! Power up your songwriting toolbox!
It is becoming obvious to me and probably to many others that AI generative instrument VSTs are going to essentially replace our sample libraries and such. Current tools that use these libraries will also most likely be replaced. There are already a few AI generative VSTs being marketed. Whether you think AI is a great tool idea or not in your studio the libraries you may have could become completely outdated in usage.
My Opinion Only (below):
That is unless the Toontrack developers use their own libraries to train AI on and produce tools in conjunction with libraries already in existence. In other words to avoid copyright infringement based on ‘training’, you may have to have these libraries registered in your online account etc. to use the AI tool that trained on such libraries. Whether this is the way Toontracks will go has not been outlined as far as I know. In any case, I have become very hesitant to commit to any new library purchases in general until the situation is more clarified by Toontracks and other sampler VST type companies. While Toontracks has the assisted ‘bandmate’ feature in its ezd 3 I do not think this is going to be able compete against all out AI generative instruments, at least for the most part. Any other thoughts out there on this topic?
Do the other AI generative instruments require you to have a relevant sample library registered on your computer? I suspect not.
AI is currently riding roughshod over the ownership of the sources it “learns” from and I suspect AI instrument plug ins will be no different.

I agree with you. As far as I know there is very little to no way to obtain physical evidence as to what AI is trained on. So from a legal standpoint it would be difficult to prove outside of witness testimony etc. I was just trying to give a scenario about how Toontracks and others, who have large sample libraries, might proceed in the future. NAMM is just around the corner so maybe we will hear something then. But it seems the end is coming soon for companies selling physical sample libraries coupled with VSTs etc. Their AI training copyright clauses are almost useless. You are completely correct that AI companies have trampled on ‘ownership’ rights and such. The hard thing for me is that most people could care less and just want their easy ‘candy’.
