To raise this issue again, I do think you’re on to something with the VH-11 performance…..I really like the feel of the VH-11 but there is a problem with harder hits causing the controller to close a little causing some unnatural closing and opening (maybe I’m hitting harder than I used to). I’ve again tried using a CY-12 R/C as the hihat cymbal whilst still using the VH-11 controller on the hihat stand and definitely get smoother performance.
I’ve been looking into this and am wondering if a hihat stand like the dw-9500 with ‘The Infinitely Adjustable Locking Spring Tension’ would help….I’m guessing a higher tension would stop the downward movement when you hit the cymbal…..It would be an expensive experiment if it didn’t make a difference though.
