Roland TD-12 Velocity HELP NEEDED

What I am working with:
Input….Roland TD-12 -> m-audio UNO USB cable into computer
Input…m-audio Axiom 49 keyboard with finger pads
EZDrummer…of course
Output…Line 6 US-2soundcard

When I trigger EZDrummer in Reaper or SOLO using the pads on the Axiom 49 I get much higher volume sounds through my monitors than when I trigger using MIDI from my TD-12 kit. All things being equal in Reaper and SOLO and beating the hell out of the TD pads doesn’t do it either.
 
I have verified in Reaper through monitoring the note velocities that indeed the TD-12 triggering is 1/3 to 1/2 the velocity of the Axiom.
 
Any expertise available from the forum on what I should be doing to raise the velocity or “volume” from the MIDI from the TD-12 versus the Axiom? I have tried master resetting the TD-12 as well just to be sure I was going back to Roland base setup.

Hi,

you have to check the Roland manual on how to change the Velocity response and/or curve in the TD-12 but I know it isn’t something hard.
Either that or you record the data and then raise the overall velocity in your host.

Hey tripp2k!  I just got Superior 2.0 and I think that I’m having the exact same problem with my TD-12.  When I click the preview button in superior I get a great high velocity sound.  When I use my bass drum pedal on the ekit it is easliy half the volume.
 
Were you able to find a solution to this problem?

hum, there isn’t a problem to start with, besides the velocity range your trigger is sending. Follow john’s advise here above or simply lower the velocity control for the bassdrum in the sampler, as stated page 19 of the Superior 2 Operation Manual.

I still have this problem where triggering from the m-audio keyboard I use or use the mouse to click the drums on the screen are much louder than when I play my TD-12, BUT here are some observations:
 
1. When I use the keyboard or mouse, the level meters on my Line 6 UX-2 go through the roof. I don’t know how to configure the velocity settings for either of these and they aren’t important to me anyway beyond the relative ah-ha I got when doing the comparison.
2. I have tweaked the heck out of the velocity settings in the module and some further tweaking on what appears to be a volume or velocity setting in S2.0 for each individual pad (after right clicking the relavent pad).
3. Number 2 has resulted in what I believe to be appropriate levels coming through to the UX-2. I fire up Solo, fire up iTunes and relieve the daily stress at what seems to me to be unity gain.
 
I hope this is helpful and I’m really diggin’ the crap out of S2.0…you guys have created quite a product here when I was happy with EZD. Actually, X pads allow me to use most of my favorite parts of Nashville with bits from the other sets. LOVE IT!

I wish Toontrack would put a *global* velocity sensitivity parameter (as well as a CC sensitivity) control into S2.0 so I can match it to my pad controller, rather than having to screw up my controller to match S2.0  Maybe in a future update they will add these glaringly ommitted controls.

 
Ctrl click a drum to select all drums pull down the ‘hard’ velocity ctrl – voila! instant sensitivity increase
 
Select the hatctrl articulation , select edit articulation only, play with the ‘hard’ and ‘soft’ level control – voila!  instant variation in hihat CC scaling….although this will be better implemented in an update

Couldn’t agree more. As an example, I had my amp system (Roland KCs) fired up to play guitar with a POD. I moved over to play the v-drums through my computer sound card and forgot it was also still plugged into the Roland KCs. Master volume on the TD-12 was barely a few notches over zero and I damn near blew my house down. Much higher velocity settings required to drive S2.0. I have remedied that potential problem now, but I’m nearly deaf going through this educational process.

If TT makes this global change, please note it in LARGE RED BLINKING LIGHTS.

An ancient thread, but since I just got Superior Drummer 3 and use a TD-12 kit, I thought I’d comment.

On the TD-12 module, press the Trigger button, then choose BASIC (F12). You now have a velocity Sensitivity and a velocity Curve parameter. Hit the pad you want to edit and tweak away. 🙂
