Alesis DM6, EZDrummer 2 problem

Just bought Alesis DM6 kit and Toontrack’s EZdrummer 2 recently (Dec 2017). EZdummer 2 is installed on laptop computer with ASIO software to minimize latency. DM6 brain and an laptop are connected with standard USB cable via USB 2 port. When I start playing everything sounds well and functioning for about 5 minutes. After aprox. 5 minutes sound expire. I can see that DM6 brain modul still produces signals (when i re-plug my headset from laptop audio headset output to DM6 brain output i can hear sounds (lame alesis sounds). When I click by mouse to individual drums on laptop, laptop generates correct sounds. It looks like I am on some trial version, despite the fact that my version was regularly purchased. However originally I installed trial version. Product manager shows that all components, in my case its EZdrummer 2 and Progressive drums are installed correctly, missing 32 bit version of EZD 2, since my system is 64 bit. Do you have an idea what is going on? Currently I cant use EZdrummer 2 and that is frustrating. Thanks

What you describe looks like the communication is lost somewhere on the MIDI connection between your module and EZDrummer 2. To encircle the problem you might do like this:

[1] Superior Drummer 3 has an integrated MIDI monitor – odes EZDrummer 2 have one too? If so, open it. If not, install something like MIDI-OX (http://www.midiox.com). See whether you still receive MIDI events when your sound output stops or not.

[2] If you don’t see any MIDI events after your sound expires, you should do some investigations on your USB connection. Many cheaper modules have issues with USB, try the following steps:
– change to a different USB port. If you use an USB 3 port now, change to an USB 2 port and vice versa
– try a different USB cable
– use an USB hub. A simple, non powered device will do
– cheap modules many times act as a generic MIDI controller and work with the build-in drivers of Windows. Maybe Alesis has a specific driver which you can use
– there is a firmware update for the DM6 available (v06). Do you have this installed already?
