NEW LESSON WITH WILDING!

Quads! You’ve heard them – but can you play them? So what exactly are quads (or quadruplets, to be precise)? They’re the classic four-note pattern – usually hand, hand, foot, foot – that seems to work in arguably any metal context.

By pairing the speed of your hands with the power of your kick, this technique will make fills sound bigger, bolder and faster without demanding extreme speed.

Played across the toms and kick, quads produce a rolling sound that cuts through the mix and instantly adds energy and momentum. They fit naturally into both 16th-note and triplet subdivisions, making excellent mid-part fills as well as segues between different patterns.

If you need to master one type of fill, this is the one.
