Wow!!! I am truly a moron. I spent over an hour looking for that and didn’t even see it. Geez, that was a lame miss on my part.

Yup, found it no problem. Maybe it’s BC I’m used to Superior Drummer where things are a bit more menu driven. Anyway, thanks!! All mapped far better.

    keep on drumming!

When I go to eDrums/Midi (eDrums/Midi In), I don’t see any place to select a module. I can select the Midi interface but there is no place to select a module.

    Thx!

Ok, have a bit of an update. Staying with the TD-12. I spent a solid ~4hrs messing with the various settings in both SD3 and the TD12 and have it working quite nicely. I learned the trick is to first get the foot sensor dialed in very precisely on the module. I then had to update the sliders in SD3. And now, I’m about 90% there. Need to finish messing with cymbal sensitivity and such but it’s working great.

I also went ahead and ordered an 8 input eDrumIn (https://www.audiofront.net/eDRUMin.php). Four probably would have been fine but I want room for expansion since I have 3 other toms laying around about ~5 old used Roland cymbals.

Thanks for the help with this! This group probably saved me over $1K for very little gain.

Scratch that. Just read it’s as easy as removing the clutch and using it as a HH. Think I’ll try this route and report back. Thanks everyone!

Really helpful. How are you combining the VH-11 and the FD-9? How are you mounting the VH-11 on a cymbal stand somehow?

    Thanks!

Thanks! Funny you bring up the foot controller. I’ve always wondered if that would create a better triggering experience. Just seems more of a “controlled” environment. Might check it out and thanks!

All helpful points and thank you. I’ll infer from all of this:

    • Agreed: Hats are complicated and you are probably right, this is translating it’s way down/through even more complicated systems.
    • Changing my module probably won’t make a big difference in how it triggers SD3(?).
    • Start from the start (triggers) and make my way down the system (module>SD3) to get everything dialed in.
    • Once things come out of “tune” refine.

    Look about right?

    Thx!

Hey Everyone- Sorry I disappeared… Holidays and work.

Ok, here’s where everything stands now. I did a complete wipe of my MBP and reloaded high Sierra. The only added software is SD3 and EZD2 with all updates and the drivers for my Steinberg interface.

The pops or crackles are gone. I attribute this to possibly no external USB drives connected and I have not loaded any virtual disk software such as Google Drive or Dropbox. The reason I mention this is that its very well known that these load I/O drivers and in the case of google drive, always indexing your disks.

So, there you go. I fixed it by basically running it as loaded and on a very very clean system.

Last time I had EZ loaded, it did not breakup like SD3. I haven’t loaded SD2 since upgrading to 3 so I can’t comment on that.

Over the weekend, I’ll try to reload EZ and do a comparison again. Its been awhile.

Hi Again- I’m the original poster of this.

I hate to say it, I agree with Phillip. I have completely wiped my MBP and only use this for EZDrummer and SD3. I have added an audio interface, etc… I still get this problem intermittently. Also have to admit that I didn’t come back here and report it because most led me to believe it was a problem with me and my setup. It still may be, and I’m open to this, but I have a pristinely clean system and am getting audio distortion intermittently.

Happy to help Toontrack in anyway, but there is most definitely something going south here.

    Thanks!

Yes, exactly. The other reality of this whole thing is that Apple likes to do what is best for Apple and they are doing a lot of changes to their file system and IO bus systems these days so who know. But ya, it works and I’m happy.

    Thanks again!

Hello- I agree that in theory, this doesn’t make any sense. What Brad brought up above is one possible contributing factor: The external SSD was connected to a USB3 hub. For troubleshooting purposes, I isolated it to this so the AI wasn’t connected.

Now, as for the theory and reality of this whole thing, I am not completely on board with the idea that just because the sound libraries are loaded into memory means this shouldn’t happen. OS X makes constant and frequent calls to the I/O systems for things like Time Machine, Spotlight indexing, etc… And Apple seems to find never ending reasons to continue to do this (ex: iCloud disk “Optimization”). But yes, in theory, I agree that SD3 is in memory and shouldn’t do this. I can only report that it was and stopped once I was off an external drive. Finally, there is no way I can 100% report with any certainty that something else wasn’t changed I the process. But I tried to keep the steps as isolated as possible but in reality, even this is flawed because it could be a few steps in combination that unbroke the camels back.

    Thanks!

Hello Again World- After a ton of work and testing, I think I isolated the problem (at least what it seems): Running SD3 from an external SSD causes occasional clicks and pops on my machine. I noticed that my external HD light would quickly flash every time I head a click/pop. So, I moved all the sound libraries over to my internal SSD on my MBP. So far, it appears to have cleared up the problem. Using an external audio interface has had no difference with this issue. I am now using a Steinberg UR22MKII (which is a great little AI. Great build quality). The only difference this has created is an ‘on paper’ difference meaning I see a 10MS output latency reduction, but no difference that I can can hear in audio quality. Not saying its not doing anything, just nothing  that impacts my very very basic use case and very untrained ears. Just wish the UR22 was a little louder in my Sony 7506 (level is nothing near real drum level).

So, from what it looks like, and I’m sure its not the only variable, running SD3 from an internal SSD seems to have had the greatest impact on the popping/clicking. Hope this helps others.

Think I found the problem. I haven’t completely tested it yet (spouse demanded I step away from the computer), but it looks like its a Roland Midi Driver when in High Sierra. What made this challenging to figure out was that the problem even occurs when I’m NOT using my Roland module (just mouse sticking). I decided to go back to Sierra and start loading software bit-by-bit (total pain) and everything was fine. Once I went to HighSierra and added the Roland driver, my entire system does some sort of bizarre processor interrupt every so often (I haven’t timed it yet). Where it gets more bizarre is that this is impacting my entire computer and not just SD3. Once I get permission to go back to my computer, I’ll test it further and see what happens. Might be a few days though.

This is why I went with the Berringer: I was looking for an audio and midi interface in one. I just bang around in my garage and don’t care about the best of the best. As long as it works and reduces my hassle, I’m happy.

    Thx!

Also- Just found a Steinberg UR22MKII on eBay and bought it for $79. Previously, I couldn’t find one for under $139. Thx!
