I wanted to say that I solved this problem utterly and completely by reducing the number Cores to 1. I went from having a total crisis every time I added a SD3 track to my mix, to there being no problem whatsoever.

The path is Settings > Performance > CPU Usage. Set the Number Of CPU Cores to 1. No more problem.
