The standalone version of EZD2 is mostly used by e-drummers to quickly start playing their kit with EZD2 sounds. It isn’t meant for song creating along side a DAW. For song writing, it is loaded in the DAW and routed accordingly.
Ok this is what I was wondering. I’m not like most people in that I don’t care so much about the actual sounds because my ultimate goal is to create drum score sheet music from my beats. I want to edit files that are close to what I am looking for and then create the notation on paper. Sounds are secondary.
I guess I need to use EZD2 as a plug in with Reaper then
Track 10 apparently is always assigned as the ‘percussion track’ and the computer doesn’t recognize drum sounds unless the midi file is recorded on that track 10. I should have called it ‘Channel 10’ – per Wiki:
“In GM standard MIDI files, channel 10 is reserved for percussion instruments only. Notes recorded on channel 10 always produce percussion sounds when transmitted to a keyboard or synth module which uses the GM standard. Each of the 128 different possible note numbers correlate to a unique percussive instrument, but the sound’s pitch is not relative to the note number.
If a MIDI file is programmed to the General MIDI protocol, then the results are predictable, but the sound fidelity may vary depending on the quality of the GM synthesizer:”
I know that when you are in the DAW Reaper that it defaults to channel one and you have to cut and paste the midi notes to channel 10 in order to hear percussion sounds. Otherwise the sounds will trigger piano/keyboard sounds. This is what is happening when I export the midi file from EZD2 – piano/keyboard sounds. However, if I cut and paste the file to channel 10 in Reaper and save the midi, it’s fine. But that doesn’t say much for this software being a Stand Alone App if I have to use a third party tool to get the file to play drums on playback – I figured that is the whole point of drum software 🙁
