Well I think i’ve figured it out. On some kits there are two OH mics, one is a OH cond, and the other is OH Dynamic. I repointed the replaced cymbal to the Dynamic and it has sound so I guess I can’t use OH Cond with some pieces. I’ve never noticed this prior to trying to switch out a china before. I added a channel and just pointed the output to it and now can hear the sound then just adjust bleed ot the other OH. Hope this helps others.

After downloading SD3 237Gb a nearly two months ago I’ve decided to move SD3 to a HD because its killing my iMac to a stand still device where I would spend hrs staring at the rainbow ball of death until one of us gives in.
This morning I’ve been searching for the SD3 SSD advertised by toontrack and as I can’t find it – I take it this is not an option any more?
Reply To: Looking for best Samsung SSD drive for SD3 version: 3.2.4
Operating system: macOS Catalina (10.15)
Sean, get yourself the Samsung T7 because it is blazing fast. I got the 500GB version and after loading all my Toontrack midi for both (EZ Drummer2 and SD3) I still have 120gb left but that doesn’t leave a lot of room for later additions. I’ll be getting the 1TB version and moving it all there instead. So get yourself the 1TB for about $120 on Amazon and move all your TT product’s midi and core libraries to it. You won’t be disappointed. I’m not.
See ya

As I understand it, the transfer speed of the drive ONLY affects the time
that it takes to load the kit’s samples into RAM. SD3 plays samples from RAM.
Once loaded into RAM, SD3 does not go back to the drive.
My recommendation… get the most reliable, the largest, and most compatible drive
for your system that you can comfortably afford.
IMHO, transfer speed is not a make-or-break option for SD3.
Personally, I run all of my SD3 sample libraries from this:
SanDisk 2TB Extreme Portable External SSD
Thanks Scott! Yeah I’m aware of that but I just am upgrading all my drives to SSD’s. I wanted to make sure when it loads into memory its as fast as possible getting there. I’m a speed junkie when it comes to processing. I recently bought a new PC just for my studio and have been doing upgrades all around. Thanks for your reply! Much appreciated.

I have found great ratings and reviews for the Samsung T7 500gb SSD. I found it on amazon for $79 and decided to try that. My friend has it and says it is a good drive to use for sample libraries and such.

Thanks, I have a Windows machine and the slot ssd is used for OS. So I don’t have a second slot. I was looking for an external 3.0usb drive. I got a Samsung T7 Blue drive which I read is excellent for what I’m going to do with it. Fast speed, reliable and stays cool.

Oh, so the newer version has what was in the one I have? Ok I’ll look into it. Thanks for your help.
That SDX (NY Vol1) isn’t a newer version. It’s a repackage of the original S2 library. Released for those users that never had S2.
Awesome, thanks for your response.

I would think that each SDX is recorded with different mics, rooms, locations etc. so sounds/levels are going to be different in many ways based on mixer, studio etc. used. I find it that I’m always tweaking things anyway and that’s the thrill of exploration in music. You’ll notice that as time goes on that the packs are getting better and better and comparing to older SDX’s isn’t practical. I use sound meters from Waves and other’s to regulate the levels. You can do this with any VU loudness meter and/or EQ as well. Happy Mixing.

What version of Protools are you using? Anything after 12.5 should have an input button. Arm that (make it green by selecting it) whatever the SD3 channel is(3/4,5/6 etc L or R) look for that on Input for the Protools channel you are using. So say channel 1 in Protools is what you are using. There is an input and output. Select input, sd3 and whatever channel your SD3 channel is. Make sure the input button is armed in PT or if you do not have the input button, select record. Play your drum track and record on protools. That’s pretty much it.

Thanked by: Ron RobsonI use Protools but the operation should be the same on all DAW’s.
I do what you are asking all the time and it’s as simple as only arm the one track/channel in your DAW to input only that snare channel. So in other words only select Arm/ Input from SD3 on whatever DAW channel it is on. In Protools there is an input button on the channel. Input is set to whatever your SD3 output is for that kit piece ( day 3/4 or 5/6 mo o Left or right) . Arm your DAW track and listen to the snare in this case. Hope this helps. I like to layer different snare by recording them on different channels and blending them together in my drum tracks.

Thanked by: Ron RobsonTry routing snare direct out. Bypass the SD3 internal bus. I get a great signal into Protools here. Make sure your input into your Daw is turned up. I usually get to red with mine. Try different snares.

Thanked by: ChadwickDunderc0ckI have noticed in Protools that the kits sound a little different as well. My stand alone kits are brighter and more powerful. I have saved the kits and opened the exact kit file in Protools and noticed they are a little more dull. The snares are more boomy and lose that crack. I have used a frequency analysis to see the differences and correct. Use an EQ to bring your kit to life again. Put it in a bus to effect each lives as a whole. Hope that helped.

If this is happening on a Windows OS then I can offer what I’ve found with this. I had this issue before in Protools 10 and 12. It is telling you that your sample rate does not match the audio driver setting. Make sure its matched to whatever you are doing. EX: 44.0k on both the Protools audio engine and the sound device (mic preamp) you have. I use a Focusrite 18i20 with the Scarlett Mix Control and had to figure this out on my own. I have them set to 24bit 44.21K for all of my projects. Hope this helps.

Thanked by: Donald Seyler and Henrik EkblomUPDATE: I have no idea how this mattered but this is what I did.
I decided to clear the Protools Preferences ( memory settings for pro tools) and start over.
I decided to see if it was an SD3 issue and opened up Protools version 10. Since SD3 is not available in PT10 I opened up SD 2.0 and tried it but still nothing. I also have EZ Drummer 2 and put it in an Instrument Track and guess what, the pad triggers it and works fine but still not in SD 2.0. Now that I know the pad is making the connection it needed to work, I saved the file and opened up PT12 and inserted EZ Drummer 2 into an instrument track and bam it works. Now I created a new track and did the same with SD3 and guess what IT WORKS!!!! I also noticed that the midi output now says Stereo and I didn’t have to choose 1-16 which I am not thinking was the tracks not midi channels. It all also works in a Midi track to Bus (Protools thing) I have no idea why but I am thinking that once it found its setting for EZD2 it must have saved it to Protool references and was available for SD3. If I didn’t have EZD2 though I wonder if it would have made the connection. Maybe its a set up bug for Protools or maybe its just my system that glitched but whatever it is it’s working now. I also created a brand new project and started with SD3 this time to test it again and it works fine.
Thank you all for putting up with my frustration. Peace and happy new year 2020 to all.

What happens when you select the midi input hardware but still nothing? Is there a Windows setting that controls midi? My Akai pads will not work with any TT product for some reason even though its selected in the choices in Stand alone SD3 or EZD2
