    Hi Jord,

I am running SD3 and the SDXs of an external SSD 2TB drive. Logic of the main internal drive (2TB SSD). I am mainly running SD3 on a record enable track and playing SD3 using my ekit a Roland TD-50X.

i thought maybe Logic was the culprit but I am also getting sound drop outs, albeit less so, when running SD3 in standalone mode as well. The buffer setting is currently at 128, I did up it from 64 although I thought my MacBook Pro was powerful enough to run lower. I am using an Apollo X8 Thunderbolt interface for the audio.

I also tried using EZD3 in both Logic and standalone and did not have any issues so it is centric to SD3.

I’m gonna try the 16 Bit option as I am still getting cracks and sound drops with Legacy of Rock and Hitmaker SDX on any kit over 7Gb of RAM.

Thanks everyone for your responses and suggestions. I think I might have isolated the problem. When Jordan asked which libraries may be problematic it encouraged me to check all my libraries. As it turned out it is related to some libraries but furthermore I think it is related to lack of RAM on my laptop.

I have purchased some SD3 presets as my main interest with SD3 is to play my E-Kit with the awesome sounds provided by SD3. The first time the crackling and audio drop out happened was with a Hitmaker Library preset I bought. I eventually realized the kit took a little over 9GB of RAM. I went back to the Core Library and all presets were playing just fine, Rooms of Hansa same with a The Cure preset  bought from the same source. I then went to Fields of Rock and when I loaded a Foo Fighters Preset the audio drops started again, the kit was about 8.9 GB of RAM. I figured that was the factor as my laptop has a total of 16GB of RAM and along with Logic, UAD Console, etc is probably maxing out.

When I played the same presets with less articulations that I didn’t necessarily need and in standalone mode the audio drops stopped happening.

I guess if I want to play those heavy RAM presets I will need a laptop with more RAM in the future….

    Hi John,

I have not tried that. I honestly don’t even know how to do that, but I’m gonna research it and give it a go.

    Thanks for the advice.

Well, started my testing of SD3 with Logic Pro X and same issues with drop sounds and crackling/distortion. I tried SD3 in Standalone and didn’t have any issues but could only play for an hour before I had to head to work.

For giggles I tried EZD3 with Logic Pro X and no issues. I guess the combination of SD3 and Logic Pro X is just not working for me.

To rule out Logic Pro X as the culprit I am going to install Protools and run SD3 and see how it goes….

I am running a MacBook Pro M1 16″ 16GB of RAM and SD3 Libraries on an external USB-C Samsung S7 SSD Drive. MacOS is Sonoma latest version. Running latest version of SD3 and several SDXs.

    Hi John,

Thanks for your reply. My performance setting is at one (1) Core. I had it at 8 cores originally but eventually realized in order to run SD3 in Logic it needed to be set one core. I also run it at one core in Standalone mode.

    Hi Jord,

Thanks for your response. I am on MacBook Pro M1 16”. I was having the problems running Ventura MacOS. I decided to upgrade to Sonoma to be able to also upgrade Logic to see if it solved the problem and it didn’t.

My last ditch effort was to uninstall SD3 and redownload and reinstall after updating my OS and that seems to have fixed it. I was only able to play my E-Kit for a couple of minutes.

I’m gonna give it a stress test tomorrow. I am just surprised that EZD3 has never had that problem but SD3 has it regardless of MacOS version installed.

So I am having the same issues, mind you I don’t have any issues running EZD3 in standalone or as a plug-in in Logic. With SD3 I am having pops, crackling, and dropped sound  consistently. I have played with the buffer at 32, 64, 128 and 256 and nothing fixes it.

It has happened with last interface a Presonus mixer and it is now happening with an Apollo x8. I am ready to sell SD3 and just use EZD3…

I’m interested in your SDX. I am based in the US, not sure if that’s an issue for you or not…
