EZd3 still has the more functional Grid Editor. Why hasn’t SD3 been updated in this regard?
Hi, SD3 does indeed have a Grid Editor. Hit the ‘P’ key or double-click a groove on the SD3 Track.
BR,
John
Thank you for your reply, but I think we’ve misunderstood each other. I do know that SD3 also has a grid editor. What I meant was that the one in EZd3 has more functions (e.g. Humanize) than the one in SD3. Tap2Find and Edit Play Style are also better in EZd3. As Toontrack’s flagship product, shouldn’t SD3 be at least on par with the entry-level product in all aspects? I find it frustrating that Toontrack has never added the improved functionality of EZd3 to SD3.
Well, Superior September has just begun without an announcement for SD4. 🙁
What really bothers me about SD3 is that, although it is the flagship product, EZd3 still has the more functional Grid Editor. Why hasn’t SD3 been updated in this regard? What is Toontrack’s thinking here? Am I supposed to use EZd3 to create the grooves and then laboriously move everything back and forth between EZd3 and SD3 so that I can use the SDX libraries? As a customer, I expect the flagship product to be at least on par with the slimmed-down version in all respects. I was therefore hoping that SD4 would be released and close this gap. But I guess we’ll have to wait at least another year.
Well, we’re just one month away from this year’s Superior September, which marks SD3’s eighth birthday. Who knows, maybe we will get an exciting announcement as part of this?!

An SD3 update with native support for Apple M1 has just been released.
Thank you, Toontrack!

Thanked by: 987bazApple have just released an M1 native version of EZkeys. I am really happy to see that and hope that EZbass and Superior Drummer 3 will be following soon. 🙂
AFAIK, there has been no official statement about Apple Silicon native support but I can imagine that there will be as soon as there is more than one Apple Silicon native host working reliably. ATM there is only Logic, right? All other audio and music apps run via Rosetta 2, to the best of my knowledge.
BR,
John
@John Are there any news regarding native compatibility of Toontrack products with M1 computers? Bitwig Studio 4 is now running natively on Apple Silicon machines and Reaper has released a very stable public beta weeks ago.
Yeah, and DAW developers are thinking “I can imagine that there will be as soon as there are more Apple Silicon native VIs and plug-ins working reliably”. 😉
If both sides continue to follow the same mindset, we won’t see any progress in compatibility in several years’ time.

Would be really nice to get a statement from Toontrack if and when native support for Apple Silicon is to be expected.

Thanked by: Rodney FergusonHas there been a statement from Toontrack yet, if and when we can expect an Apple Silicon native version of SD3?
Oh, I see. I always thought that presets were backwards compatible. Thanks for the clarification, John!
I have updated to Big Sur and so far I haven‘t experienced any issues with Superior Drummer 3 and EZbass. Both are working perfectly fine in Logic Pro 10.6.
What I really would like to know is when (or if) Toontrack will release (or start working on) universal binary versions of their software with native support for Apple Silicon.

Thanked by: Michael Baker and Rodney FergusonWow, cool. It really works much better now. Thanks!
However, the “color profile workaround” is still a good trick to improve the overall system performance – especially on Retina Macs without a dedicated graphics card (like my late 2015 21.5″ Retina 4K iMac).
