just a quick add to this.
I watched the video on velocity by Shootie School, which was very helpful.
However, adjusting velocity settings doesnt seem to change the tone at all, just more/less sensitive on the snare.
The snare seems to have a slight phase effect on it from somewhere, whichever kit I select in EZD3.
I suspect it’s something outside of EZD3 that is the problem and I’ll need to look at adjustments on the kit module.
I’m still getting to grip with the drum module so I’ll need to swat up on that first.
I’m wary of upsetting the sounds I have because the kit triggers really well as it is.
I also have some Edrum Centre packs on there, which sound awesome and I don’t want to mess anything up.
If I find the problem I’ll report back.

Velocity is as per factory settings and all the other pads. straight line from bottom left to top right.
Forgive me if I’m familiar with the terminology – linear I think.
Tried turning mixer levels up but just get the same sound just a little louder.
Volumes settings were same for most toms/drum pads set as per factory at around 4/5 level.
Thanks for the feedback Michael.
just using the mouse click as a comparison. The other toms/cymbals all sound similar to the ‘click’version of the sounds.
The snare, however is nothing like it. Difficult to describe but not a lot of difference in sound level however hard you hit the pad.
sounds like someone has stuck a foam cushion on the snare skin and it’s mostly snare wire sound rather than the crack of the drum.
The brain sound itself is perfect and has all the nuances in sound levels and velocities.
The Digital ride appears to work fine.
I have tried changing the usb inputs around for the Hi hat, Snare and ride but no change.
Checking midi mapping next in case something needs changing there.
I have a similar problem with my TD27KV2 Snare – PD-140DS
I have just switched from a TD12 kit with no issues with triggering EZD3.
When I connected the TD27 KV2 and selected TD27 from the preset kits menu, everything worked fine except the snare.
It sounds nothing like when you mouse click on it on EZD 3 software.
No dynamics and no attack, just a buzzy snare sound.
still looking online for anyone else with same issue or a youtube fix so any help appreciated.
Cool thanks for all the replies.
I think I’m starting to understand how it all works.
I’m working my way through various online tutorials on EZD3 and Cubase so hopefully I’ll get there soon.

Hi.
Apologies for the delay. Been having some fun and games with this plus getting 2 sons ready for Uni.
Not sure how but using a combination of the control panel and the reset the device button I got the latency down to 64 buffer size.
Was working fine up until tonight. When I go ito settings to select the audio device I get an error message when I try to select the
Yamaha Steinberg USB option. Error message says “error when trying to open audio device – Device could not be opened.”
I get the same error message when I try to open the Asio for generic device option. The others all work fine.
As a side note I have been trying to use the Cubase 13 AI software that came free with the Steinberg UR22 and I had some issues getting it to recognise the UR22.
Tonight I loaded Cubase before I loaded EZD and it did connect to the UR22.
I just closed Cubase and now EZD can now recognise and accept the Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO option and buffer size is back to 64, which is great.
However, I cannot now select the Yamaha SteinbergUSB ASIO in Cubase AI, says “device could not be found”
I’ve not used a DAW before so I’m still at the very early stages of learning how Cubase works.
so I’m guessing that I can’t select the UR22 with EZD and Cubase at the same time. Is this right?
Hi Doug
Thanks for the advice.
I’ve updated the firmware and driver so should be up to date on both.
I think the driver was already the latest version.
Restarted the laptop and I’m now back to 512 samples buffer size
screen shot of the Audio device types availaable attached.
