I can confirm that in the entire history of me ever using _any_ plugin or piece of software, Toontrack is the _only_ company to ever have _actually_ listened to customer complaints, recognised the problem and released a fix… only took a year!
Cubase + EZDrummer2 (2.20 update) is now working correctly.
Now I can purchase EZBass.
Happy Christmas indeed.

just sent a tech support request yet again for this issue, and now getting alerts from this thread in my inbox again. it’s like they’ve gone, “meh, whatever, send him to the forums, we got better things to do…” hence, why I’ve not dropped coinage on EZBass!
I don’t think they’ll ever get round to fixing the issue. it’s definitely related to the 2.1.8 release, as if I roll back, all is fine.
Also had Jan from Steinberg tech remote session in twice over the past year, and it’s nothing to do with my DAW.
It’s niggles like this, that have put me off ToonTrack. I would stop using EZD2 and EZKeys if they sounded bad, but they don’t.. hhmpf!

sorry, nope, this doesn’t help. only workaround so far, is to either enable the record button in EZD2’s Song Creator panel at the bottom, or press play on a loop with a blank part in the Song Creator.
hope this helps you to identify the issue guys.

*****EZDrummer2 Update**
Only a small minor update here guys, but this is “kind of” of “fix” for this message..
I’ve tried everything, so I’m hoping this little “trick” will help the devs in sourcing the isse and releasing a fix with the next update?!
Getting the audio driver inactive message? click on the red “record” button in EZDrummer’s Song Creator panel at the bottom. it will make the Play button flash orange, but this solved all the issues for me.
Come on TT, I’m waiting to buy EZBass, but will refuse to do so unless you release a fix for this issue.
www.steveforward.com
Not really an update, just chiming back in to see if anyone has solved this..
It also does this in Reaper, so I now know it’s not Cubase 10 or my Win7-64-bit machine that’s the issue, I have two machines.
one “solution”, to make the audio driver not ready message disappear, is to play the song creator, maybe leave it on a loop, then it doesn’t happen.
this is verison 2.1.8, so PLEASE Toontrack investigate,
you guys just released EZBass, and I refuse to purchase it (like many others) based on EZD2 not functioning as it should.
I’ve made a small OBS video to highlight the issue,
You can find the link here – http://www.steveforward.com/EZD2_error.mp4 (15.1mb)
I’ve uploaded it to YouTube too: https://youtu.be/prodXaEIslE
Good luck guys! *(and stay safe!)

**Update:
The 4 main components here, are
1 – Sound card and drivers, in my case Steinberg UR22 and UR824
2 – The DAW, Cubase 8.5, 9.5, and 10.
3 – EZD2 plugin. The standalone version does not give me any issue.
4 – The OS. Windows 7 – 64-bit.
This morning, I had some time to test this all out, and try and find a workaround.
I rolled back EZD2 to version 2.0.2 – It works absolutely fine, although I do keep getting annoying
“this product is not up to date” and issues with messages saying, “not able to update sound packs” etc….
I also, rolled back my Yamaha sound card driver (UR 824 and UR22 sound cards in each machine) from 1.10.4 back to 1.7.3 , which didn’t do anything.
So if you are having issues, my suggestion would be to roll back, uninstall/remove the latest version of EZD2, and put on 2.0.2.
I’m convinced the OS, and DAW and Sound Card Drivers are not to blame in this instance. Therefore, my suspicion, at this point in time, points firmly to the EZD2 Plugin.
Come on Toontrack, hurry up and fix this annoying bug!
Hope this helps some of you out there.

so, still no resolution to this.. I have two different windows 7 64-bit machines running Cubase 8.5, 9.5 and 10, and EZD2 version 2.1.8 runs absolutely fine in 8.5 and 9.5, yet in 10, it still gives this audio drive inactive error. sometimes if you leave it on the mixer page it doesn’t give the error.
another thing worth adding is, even if I left click on ANY part of the Cubase 10 project window, and I mean anywhere, it gives the error. Audio drop outs do occur still.
A possibe (and I mean possible) workaround, maybe this : set the Song Creator to Loop and press play. I no longer get the audio drop out error. which clearly points to the plugin being to blame here.
I switched over from using B**2 and 3 back in 2015 to Toontrack products, and use their EZKeys Grand Piano plugin constantly too. As a full time backing track creator and writer, I rely on these products. I did think it was because I was still on win 7-64, or that it may still be a windows issue full stop, but Mac users are saying it is happening on their machines, running Cubase 10, as well as windows 10 users.
I have submitted screenshots detailing the problem as far back as last June (2019) and clearly, it seems as though the dev guys have at least been told about this problem, but for now, I’m just having to use it and ignore the drop outs as I switch track lanes in Cubase 10, or just use an earlier version.
the only thing I haven’t yet tried, is rolling back to an earlier plugin version. To be honest, I don’t see why ToonTrack don’t just leave the program alone, and only release bug fixes.. if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

it is frustrating for sure. Usually when bugs of this kind happen, it takes ages for companies to iron them out. Mainly because they don’t really know what’s causing it. Usually because their own “test” systems have nothing but their own products on them.
For this very reason alone, and despite being a HUGE ToonTrack fan, I have been most unimpressed, as I use EZD2 on a daily basis for paid work by clients. I’m not very impressed with Steinberg frankly either, Cubase 10 is a complete cowpat of a DAW right now, such a shame. Good job I have 8.5 to fall back on.
The thing that gets me, is that they look at you like it’s your machine, or your end, that is to blame, like an accusational finger as it were 🙂 but in reality, in most case that may be true, still, we’ve paid for a product, that is not behaving how it should, and on 99.9% of cases, it’s because we’ve done what they’re always telling us to do.. namely, “update to our latest (and fastest, and more stable) version.
after running windows XP for nigh on 12 years, with zero system updates, not one, I have to say those years, were the most trouble free I ever had. Cubase 6.5 ran like butter, smooth as silk, and nothing ever went wrong.
It’s the main reason why I will never, ever upgrade to Win10. which is also another cowpat to avoid.
Everywhere I look, all these rich, and powerful companies, telling us to buy their products. yet most of them, are cowpats.
MoooooO!
😀

haha, spoke too soon, no, it’s doing it on all tabs.
www.steveforward.com
One thing I have noticed.
In the TABS on EZD2, if you select DRUMS, and left click anywhere on the Cubase 10 Project Window, the audio driver not ready message appears.. same for BROWSER, same for SEARCH, yet on the MIXER tab, it is not doing it.
which, again, points firmly at some sort of code/bug error in 2.1.8 of EZD2 guys, hope you can help!

Guys, I have had Cubase Teamviewer in twice (Jan Reisener – Senior Technical Support) It’s definitely an issue arising from Cubase 10 and EZD2 latest version.
And yes, Sometimes the MIDI does actually crap out. I’ve had to switch back to another drum plugin sadly while you guys get it fixed.
www.steveforward.com
you’re not alone, lots of people are having issues with Cubase 10 and EZD2 with this “audio driver issue” I load up Cubase 8.5 and it’s not there, it’s a small niggle, but I have steinberg Teamviewer-ing in sometime next week (yet again!) to try and resolve this and other issues.
My suspicion is a dodgy driver in Cubase or EZD2 and they just don’t like each other.
Latest drivers, all windows updates, running Win7-64 with an i7, 24GB Ram, and a Steinberg UR824 card. my other machine runs Cubase 10 ( I have two licenses for work) and it does the exact same thing.
I get the Audio Driver Not Ready error in EZDrummer2’s VST window when I simply left click on anything in the Cubase project window.
However, if I select “Mixer” in EZD2, and left click again, it goes away. My guess is it’s a Toontrack issue. I’m on v.2.18, I may roll back (if I can) to a previous version until they fix the bugs.
Keep us updated with any resolution on this guys!
