Definitely, so long as there’s a SDX too rather than just EZX. There’s a few EZX I wish they’d done for SDX.

I’d like to see one with Meinl cymbals and base it around the sounds of Benny Greb and Mike Johnston. Lots and lots of detail, so soloing sounds great. Maybe approach them to do the midi. This would be amazing for E-Drumming and online lessons. Actually sounding like a tutor.

Or maybe a similar thing with a New Orleans inspired SDX with side percussion & a 2nd snare like what Stanton Moore uses.

Basically a series of signature SDX packs of famous drummers and their kit/cymbals, rather than focussing on  actual studios for a change.

I’ve got the TD25KV and on my snare which should be the same as yours. The snare will only ever detect two zones not three (not counting the Rim).

These two positions generate different midi. If I do a snare roll and move it outwards, I can setup SD3 to change from the Center articulation to Edge or Mid Center (whichever you prefer when setting it up). However, with your screen shot, it looks like you’re going for Center, Mid & Edge and it’ll only ever detect two of those.

I’ve recorded grooves and then if needs be, edited fills/rolls in the editor afterwards. Not ideal I know but it’s a limitation of our E-Kits not SD3.

Funny you mention the Black Beauty. The closest I came to getting a Zep 2 sound was using the 6.5×14 Black Beauty from New York Vol 2 (Hit Factory). Compression top and bottom on the snare and more O/H in the mix and full bleeds. Then I ran it through DMG Audio’s Track Comp (Silverface preset),  Waves’ Abbey Road J37 Tape (Mastering Tight and Open) and then Waves’ Abbey Road Vinyl (Default), adjust to taste and it sounds pretty good. I saw a video with Mike Johnston from Mikeslessons using the tape plugin on his kit and it works really well.

I’m a big Zep fan but my preference for my own drumming is the old James Brown funky drummer sound. I’ve got my 402 tuned pretty high up and I’m working on getting a similar sound to play through the E-Kit with SDX.

Anyways, back to this SDX. I’m 99% certain to buy it, but I’ve been intrigued by the Rooms of Hanza so I’ll see about getting that first, or if the wife is in a good mood, both I think. Ha.

What’s the crack like on the snares? I tried recreating Bonzo’s sound a while back using different bits from various EZX & SDX addons

I’m tempted to get this but Rooms of Hanza has been my first choice for a while.

Not to be facetious or condescending here BUT…

You do realize this SDX is from the man behind Zeppelin’s mix. Considering that he used Helios pre’s to capture the drums (which was what Zeppelin was recorded on), I think this is the closest you will ever get to Bonzo without having to conduct a seance. Every time I close my eyes and listen to this SDX, I am almost picturing him playing. If he were here today, I’m sure he’d be proud of how Eddie captured his kits.

Yes I’m well aware of who Eddie Kramer is. I was just asking about the snares and whether they have a nice crack to them? I own a Supra 402 and I’m interested in how they sound. From the demos of this, none of the snares sound like Bonzo, as he’s not tuning them or hitting them. Eddie Kramer or not. Whereas the kicks, toms etc do.

I agree on this. Or the Latin one that’s just come out for EZdrummer 2 but in SDX.

Any update on this for a future patch Toontrack?

This is probably why there’s no rush to fix it. People buying more to fix the issue.

Is Toontrack still looking into this? Easiest solution would be a discount on NYC Vols 1 & 3 wouldn’t it of say 70% off? Let people complete the collection and Toontrack get a little back.

This is my experience only, but I recently purchased a Samsung EVO SSD 250gb and connected it to the motherboard and I use this exclusively for SD3. Since I bought this, it absolutely flies. I can load in a 3gb kit in about 8 seconds.

Not sure if a new dedicated drive would help? There’s a Samsung driver that keeps it optimised and it sits in the tray icon on Win 10 64bit.
