you’re lookin’ at about 6.56 GB for the EZX’s you’ve listed.

EZDrummer2 installs as both a plugin and a standalone application.
You will not need Solo to use EZDrummer2 negating the ‘issues’ about saving tracks in Solo (whatever they may be?).
Creating, saving & recalling programmed sequences or songs is core to EZDrummer2’s fundamental new features.

Regarding use of your alphanumeric kybd as a controller, you don’t mention whether you’re using a PC or a MAC.
Almost any MIDI controller is preferable to using the mouse as a trigger.

I can’t imagine that Steps 2-5 aren’t the same for both.

    In a word, “No”.

If you are going to install the demo on an iMac, you must download the MAC installer.

Eh, I get that both products have their place and intended consumer, but had I known an SDX would be coming in the future I would not have bought the EZX. In fact, I’m probably going to steer clear of EZXs from now on for this reason.

    EDIT:

@baraka said:Should i wait for the colin richardson SDX NeXT november?

Yeah, this. A surprise SDX makes the EZX basically useless, or at best redundant, so I’m not going to risk buying any more EZXs that could potentially be expanded months later. I already had “Metal Foundry” so I didn’t buy “Metalheads EZX”, but those products make sense the way they were released; Metal Foundry came out, and later, a cut-down version for folks who didn’t want to go balls-deep on a whole SDX package. But Metal Machinery’s genesis is ass-backwards, and I regret buying Colin’s Made of Metal EZX too, now that I know how this works.

Exactly my point, Toontrack are just milking people for Money, atleast now we know the drill, i won`t touch a EZX ever when eventually an SDX comes out with the same samples, just better.

Don`t give me the 2 product path bs, we all know that, what i asked why Toontrack did`nt let us know that they had an SDX of the same seesion coming?

    Can you answer me that?

And, will the Made For Metal EZX come as a SDX too at some point?

Frankly, I find value in having both the EZX’s and the SDX’s.
Toontrack certainly doesn’t need me to defend them but I can’t tell if you guys are being serious or sarcastic….
The Metal Machine EZX was released 3 years ago (11/1/2011).
That kind of seems like quite a long time to wait if Toontrack just intended to release Metal Machinery as some sort of “money grab”.
It’s quite possible that at the time, and until recently, they never intended to release the SDX at all…by popular demand.

PS. There are very few, if any, companies that will comment on future releases, or the possibility of future releases.

Thanks for sharing your problems and wishlist. Here is some feedback to it:

    – Id also like to drag that midi block anywhere I want WITHOUT it being destructive , meaning whatever lied beneath it remains untouched , so I can jiggle my fill around to various places “on the fly” until I have found the best place that works
This is a bit of a problem if you put a block that’s as big or bigger than the one that’s there to start with. If you place a fill at the end of a block it will often just shorten the original block, which means that you can drag it out again to its former length.

Maybe Toontrack can explore adding more tracks to the EZDrummer2 timeline (like EZPlayer Pro) to enable block editing
and simultaneous groove auditioning in a multi-track style format.
Maybe the ability to mute an entire individual block on either timeline could also be enabled.

    – Id like to be able to paste to anywhere I want without using the scizzor tool to cut in an opening , and as above be able to jiggle/shuffle the block if need be.
You can paste things either from the right click menu on the track (which selects the block that you hover), leading to the fill ending up in the beginning. You can also use the track menu (3 horizontal bars on the top right part of the track). If you use paste from that menu, the content will pasted where your time marker is placed.

Thanks for that tip!!! I didn’t realize that the 2 Paste commands functioned differently.

Drag and drop to/from EZdrummer 2
EZdrummer 2 has full drag and drop support, both from and to EZdrummer 2. Some DAW:s doesn’t support this, so it’s unfortunately beyond our control to fix that. You can, for example, drag MIDI to your desktop, and directly from your desktop to EZdrummer 2’s track. Correct me if I am wrong, but you should be able to drag MIDI to ProTools from EZdrummer 2. Pro Tools 11 has removed the possibility to drag MIDI out from the DAW – however, I think it was possible in Pro Tools 10 and earlier.

You are correct. I can drag grooves from EZDrummer2’s browser tab or timeline into Pro Tools 11 and Logic Pro X.
Neither of these DAWs seem to allow dragging MIDI out of their instrument tracks to Finder, Desktop or EZDrummer2.

    Hi,

With the standalone track editor. How does it deal with / can it do things like triplet fills (used in most nu-metal songs, three hits on the snare and tom)? Trying to achieve this in Cubase is a pain and so I am hoping that there is something here to make this easier.

There is no piano roll editor in EZDrummer2 but if you can tap or play it (or close to it), there is quantization to help you pocket it.
    See attachment below.

Also, what if I want a track that starts 4/4 then goes 3/4 for the chorus and something else for the solo? Is that possible?

EZDrummer2 will play whatever MIDI is you’ve programmed in your DAW, at any time signature, tempo, etc.
but if you’re going to create & leave the MIDI in EZDrummer2’s internal songtrack,
In neither the standalone or plugin, EZDrummer2 has no ability to change time signatures within its embedded timeline…
at least not within a single instance of the plugin.
With the plugin, I’d recommend two separate instrument tracks; each with an instantiation of the EZDrummer2 plugin for each time signature.

    Using EZD2 in PRO TOOLS …., is a total ” P.I.T.A ” :(
…, What SUX is ….., If I want to edit a hit ….,
    – I have to export the Midi out of EZD2 and dump it somewhere on my hard-drive
…, Then I have to Import the midi file from there back into pro Tools , so I can edit the file in Pro Tools Midi Editor window.
…., then getting that Midi file back into EZD2 is the same P.I.T.A procedure , but reversed …., why oh why cant these be drop and drag straight out of EZD2 into pro Tools ?

what version of Pro Tools are you using??
I’m using Pro Tools 11 and I can easily drag my EZDrummer2 song timeline straight into Pro Tools
as a whole track or in block pieces – from the plug-in or from the standalone.

    I’ve used EZDrummer1 for years. I also have SuperiorDrummer2.
EZDrummer2 is a great product as is and is not a purchase that I regret.

    Yes, I agree that there is room for improvement and that EZDrummer2 can be made better;
Yes, I’d love to see a piano roll-style MIDI editor.
I know for a fact that Toontrack listens to their customers and I “let not the perfect be the enemy of the good”.
