Ah, thanks, exactly what I’m looking for, and it was right in front of me 🙂

You can make an alternative track and put your groove, or the entire song, in it. I often find myself working with alternative tracks keeping different ideas of the song in them.

Thanks. How do I create an alternative track within the grid editor? I can’t find it in the manual.

I’ve found one way of loading a sound without it playing when clicked – Right-click “Replace”. Still not perfect as it brings up a context menu that then needs to be dismissed, but at least the part continues playing uninterrupted.

I am auditioning snare drums sounds for a song, which involves cycling the MIDI part while I load each alternative snare in turn, and then writing down the ones I like on a shortlist. This is pretty laborious!

Is there any way of marking instruments as I go so I don’t have to physically write everything down?

    Thanks!

Ahh thanks for that! I never realised there was that whole interface when you click “search for instrument” – I was just using the menu in the Drums tab!

Please can you answer a quick question about the search interface… how can I stop the snare sound from playing when I click on a snare? Even if I click directly on “Replace”, it immediately plays the sound rather than just loading it into the currently-playing pattern. Makes it harder to A/B compare when you get an additional out-of-time snare hit.

Thanks ondjpayn – this seems to be the closest solution possible, although it’s still clunkier than just stepping through the presets. In fact, no need to select the mixer channels, as it’s mainly the sample loading that takes time.

I would still very much like the feature to ‘deactivate’ (rather than just ‘remove’) drums though, for times when I am using Superior for a single drum rather than a kit. I will email support with a feature request.

    Thanks!

Just load a kit and then select the snare and just replace this instrument to try different snare sounds. You can turn off all of the other drums/cymbals as well if you want (highlight then right click and “remove instrument”). cheers, Andrew

This allows me to go through the snares within a particular preset, but sometimes I want to try out the different presets (including their different mix styles etc). What I would like to do is either:

    a) Load just the snare from the preset (and associated overheads, mix settings etc)

    or

    b) Switch off (‘remove’) the other drums, but have them stay switched off while moving through the presets list.
