Yeah, a huge disappointment.
Basically just a few grooves that only play simple hits.
The samples are great. But the midi is pathetic.

Thanked by: MarcinMaybe its Asperger’s Syndrome or something, but Jordan you often come across very dismissive and arrogant.
You sometimes offer very savvy advice and solutions. Why do you feel the need to be so objectionable and opinionated about issues that are clearly subjective like “what is complicated and whats not?”
It kinda ruins the vibe and the hope that this forum will grow and become a better resource. You chase people away with your arrogance and attitude.
What would Jesus do?

“There’s nothing complicated about routing the microphones”
You are still a complicated unpleasant dude.
There are many complicated aspects when you consider the naming of these channels and the differences between certain SDX’s and the set ups, The overheads and the bleed. Keep your goofy dismissals to yourself.
Mac Studio
The mic/channel routing options are quite complicated. I never truly understand what is going where and why some samples have some assignments.
I eventually get it to a working situation, but geez, its so confusing because different sample have different articulation routed in different ways.
I think a visual diagram of a kit and mics and channels would go a long way. So you could “see” whats going where. ( ala the patching back side of Reason software) the words and the assignment matrix via drop down menus is not the way my brain works.

Sometimes i use the SD3 phaser set very slow to achieve this. It becomes a random ish frequency variation on channels
Mac Studio
you just have to make a new instrument.
This is also an example of how cool it would be to have a “duplicate instrument” option in SD3
Mac Studio
I think I solved your issue. If you only have two samples in the stack;
The original sample does indeed stay in the stack , however it does not look like it because if the instrument is a single sample, there is no graphic in the stack window.
The original is not being removed , it just gos back to the original state with no graphics in that stack interface.
Mac Studio
perhaps you are still selecting the whole stack.
when you click the instrument in the Kit graphics window, the entire stackis selected. You need to click the actual pic od the individual sample in that stack to be able to delete it from the stack

This points out the advantage of using the midi channels in the DAW you are using. Way more options to have unlimited midi tracks playing what ever you want and mute and/or solo specific tracks.
The grid editor in SD3 is a nive sequencer, but your stuck inside of the plug in.
What would be nice is to have the DAW.s midi pinao role reflect the layout of the SD3 grid editor. That would be optimal

Im not seeing this behavior. If i choose “remove from stack” it only removes the sample ive selected

Yes the method of adding (stacking) samples to multiple articulations is a bummer. The problem stems from the fact that every sample set doesnt have the same articulatioms. Some snares include many articulations, some only have 3 or 4.
ITs an issue born out of the luxury of the sophisticated articulation design in SD3. IT would be cool if it at least would “try” like replace the obvious ones in a “stack” and leave the missing ones empty. Its been talked about often on this forum.
Being able to “duplicate” and instrument and all the routing parameters would go a long way to solve many of these issues.
Mac Studio
im under the impression the midi not length is always the same static diamond shape and length.
It sounds like your actually making a midi not move beyond the bar, which would make it exist in a different chunk.
Is this whats happening? you want to constrain the midi note so it doesn’t leave the bar?
Mac Studio
Yep, its a complicated situation that could be solved if SD3 allowed us to “DUPLICATE INSTRUMENT”.
A duplicate feature would us to make an exact copy of an instrument, ALL its mix properties and sample settings (sans the midi assignment) and then we could adjust the sample, pitch, envelope, etc…
The current method of tom assignments of missing toms being replaced with the existing loaded toms is helpful in some scenarios. but detracts in other scenarios.
It really depending on the specific kit and sdx choises of what pre sets include what toms.
I wish every SDX or EZX would have an option for “ALL INCLUDED INSTRUMENTS” this way you could choose a pre set which have the “extra” toms and cymbals assigned to the greyed out spaces that they would be assigned to if they were included in the specific pre set.
Some kits have 10 or so pre sets that are just the same pre set with certain instruments turned off. this is helpful for E drums so that every tom pad at least makes a noise< like if you really wanted a kit with only two toms, buts its inconvenient for those who just want all the possible samples included with that kit to be an option, without having to re route and assign various parameters.
My go to is usually the kit pre set that has ALL the instruments as an option.

You can also freeze the tracks in Pro Tools. you can also “print” the individual tracks in pro tools. Both of these methods create identical files and are completely locked to the tempo changes. you can test the quality by doing a bounced track from SD3 and the printing a track within pro tools. Then do a null test, they are the same.
I never bounce within SD3. Its just never is as perfect as printing the tracks, individual or otherwise. When you do all the needed maneuvers to use SD3 bounce tempo correctly, its takes longer than just printing the tracks in pro tools ( unless its a really long session)
