Have you tried a drum map in Cubase that is same as SD3 default ?
Dell Precision 7730, i7 6 Core 2.6 GHz, 128GB RAM, 1TB SSD and 3 x 2TB SSD, Windows 11, Cubase Pro 14, SD3 plus a variety of SDX's and EZX's, Orchestral Percussion, EZBASS, RME BabyFace Pro FS and KRK V4 monitors. Modified Yamaha DTX900, DTXPRESS4 and Edrumin10 triggering SD3. Yamaha pads/cymbals and Roland VH-10 HiHat. PDP Maple acoustic kit for live playing.
I do the same thing as well. It all depends on what you want to do and flexibility required. Main reason I use an OH AND a separate (own) channel for cymbals is to have some independence from the “normal” OH only routing when I record to a multi-channel output routing. I output to a “cyms” and “ride” channel as well as OH and create the same channels in my DAW. By having a separate cymbal channel I can have some independence from OH and gives greater mixing control in my DAW. I can increase OH to bring up the drums and reduce individual cyms channels so cymbals aren’t too overpowering. The beauty of SD3 is lots of different ways to achieve an outcome so no right or wrong way. cheers, Andrew

Thanked by: patrick maguireYeah exactly that. Eg I route the ride to a ride channel (that I create) that bleeds into OH, the Crash to a Crash channel (that I create) that also bleeds into OH and so on for as many cymbals that I use. See screenshots.
Only issue is it increase the RAM demand but I have 64GB RAM so still useable with low latency.

I actually route all of my cymbals and rides to a new separate channel for each and also include in OH as well. That way I have full control.

I don’t think anyone can answer as it really depends on what you are looking for so IEM’s versus over ear headphones and the sound you are after is such a personal thing. Happy to give a recent experience though. I have used good over the ear headphones (Sennheiser HD650) and these sound awesome (if open back design doesn’t interfere with other people – as you get external sound from them). My only issue is that when playing for a few hours they can get a bit uncomfortable/heavy so I looked at IEM’s.
I started with Shure SE425 as they came well recommended on a number of (drum) websites. These were crap for me. Very comfortable and great mids but treble was very harsh and bass response was AWFUL for drums. This was after fixing the ear sealing with eartips that suited me so the lack of bass was not due to poor fit. I was so disappointed that I contacted local Shure agent (in Australia) and sent them back to be checked. They came back as working perfectly and after a number of phone discussions with the agent and the retailer that I purchased them from, the conclusion was that they were working as expected but in the words of the Shure agent the SE425’s have “a response below 200Hz that is not great”. I was so disappointed, and I have no recourse so stuck with a useless (to me) pair of Shure SE425 IEM’s. Please DO NOT buy Shure SE425’s for IEM’s for drumming as the bass response is terrible.
I learnt my lesson from this and so my research began. I ended up finding a MUCH better (and cheaper) pair of IEM’s that actually sound very close to my HD650 headphones. They are actually awesome and I am so happy with these. They are 7Hz Timeless IEM’s from Linsoul. If you look them up they get some fantastic reviews and very reasonable price. I haven’t had them for long so can’t comment on how they will perform longer term but so far they are awesome and appear to be very sturdy. Bass response in particular is exactly what I was after. They sound fantastic when playing my e-kit triggering Superior Drummer 3.
Good luck with your searching.

Thanked by: dodoThanks Jord – I didn’t realise the options only come up after you do the search.

Hi Jord,
can you show how to get advanced mode please.

Hi Ken,
As per my response to myself, If you go into reroute section in mixer tab, the list of Buses (and outputs) is given in the correct order that they were originally set. You can then rename back to original if you want (in numerical order Bus 1, Bus 2 or Out 1/2, Out 3/4 etc) or confirm whether you have changed any of the ordering of these buses or outputs – have a look at my screenshot and it will show this. cheers, Andrew.
P.S – A “reset option” from Toontrack is still a good suggestion for improvement.

I think I’ve answered my own question. If I go in to reroute any channels, the original order is maintained in the lists of the 16 output channels and 32 Bus channels so I can confirm from this screen.

I have same issue. It took me a long time to work out how to do this consistently as I have lots of user kits that are all set up the same way. I route to multiple buses and then then buses go to multiple outputs in SD3. The key for me has been to set them up all exactly the same way so my multi outs are always the same and IN THE SAME ORDER – eg Out 1/2, Kick, Kick Sub, snare, hats, Tom 1 -5, ride, cymbals, OH, Room, Reverb (parallel) and Comp (parallel) – always using all 16 stereo outs.
I then use a single drum template in my DAW (Cubase) and route each output to Cubase and then via group channels (that also route to a drum bus group channel). I name each output in Cubase (eg S3/4 becomes “Kick”) and name all group channels (eg “Kick grp”).
Once this is set up, I can use the same template in Cubase and don’t have to rename anything. It works for all of my SDX libraries as well as long as each one is set up the same way for buses and multi outs. Complicated but once done it is easy.
If there is no Kick sub in the library I am using then I just don’t route anything to the kick sub bus and kick sub output but still have these in place so the single template works. Have to be very careful not to change order of these output channels in SD3.
Agree it would be easier if the SD3 output naming was transferred across to the DAW.

Thanks for the response – much appreciated. I know about mixer channels so these are all renamed and not an issue. My issues are in grid editor, mic routing (drum tab) and close mics and mic bleeds (mixer tab) where the “Instrument 1” nomenclature remains so when I have 15 of these, it is a pain to understand which is which in these scenarios. Hopefully Toontrack will take note to make it easier.
