Thanks for the response Olof. I got around it by saving the preset in another channel and then copying back into the channel that had the issue.
I have now done what you suggested so attached below is my saved version of the snare exaggerator that was showing a flat curve and nodes not attached to line. From what I can tell there is no change in sound with effect on or off so it looks like it is not just graphical and affects sound as well. cheers, Andrew
P.S it says file type not allowed so I couldn’t attach – see attached

I have tried with other (SD3) snares and it looks like issue might be using Metal Foundry SDX in SD3. Is this because it was originally an SDX expansion for SD2 and therefore not adjustments available in SD3 ?

I either create a new user channel for each cymbal (or route the cymbal to an existing “spare” channel that I don’t need) and then pan this channel as I want. cheers, Andrew

The older Yamaha DTX900 modules have 3 triggers on each of 12 inputs (incl toms, snare, cyms, “spare pads”) so 36 – plus the Kick, Hi-hat triggers (5) and an additional single input so I have 43 triggers on my edrums with following pads – kick, Hats, 5 “toms”, 2 snares, 5 “cymbals” plus a mono pad I use as a cowbell. Great setup for a large kit and I use tom rim triggers for octobans/rototoms. Cant beat the older Yamaha modules for this ability. The newer DTXPro modules (on new DTX10 Kit) has many less triggers – one of the reasons I haven’t upgraded. I don’t need the better module sounds as all of my sounds come from SD3/SDX and no module has this sound capability !

The other option that I use is to set up an individual channel for each cymbal and then you can control level and bleed into other mic channels. Also See this thread below in this forum. Hope it helps, Andrew

I have done that with a few other SDX 5 tom kits but didnt think to try it for some of the “less than 5 toms” SDX libraries. I’ll also give it a try. Thanks Jord for the suggestion. cheers Andrew

Thanks John but I have lots of kits/libraries that I want to always launch in 16bit mode. Whenever I change kits or libraries then it defaults to 24bit mode and I have to reset to 16bit which is annoying.
Has this option to always launch in 16bit been removed with one of the updates ? the manual still shows it is an option. cheers, Andrew

Hi David – not sure why you would need other instruments bleeding into your new user mic channel for an additional tom ? I usually switch off bleeds in tom channels. I think that this is a function of user channels and you cannot actually have other instruments bleeding into these.
If you want the user channel for additional tom to bleed into other OH or ambience channels, then you need to go into those channels and switch on bleed for the new instrument so this additional user tom is then picked up in these OH and ambience channels – I find this far more significant in the overall sound rather than other channels/instruments bleeding into a new user channel (and especially if it is a Tom).
Have I understood you correctly ? cheers, Andrew

Thanked by: DavidHi, Lots of people have now asked for this. Any update ? And is this likely to be addressed soon ? cheers, Andrew

I am an e-drummer with a 5 tom (3 x rack and 2 x floor) pad setup so I do this all the time. I create a user instrument based on a racktom or floortom that I like and then I tune these up (or down) accordingly to get the sound I want. I also use other property box presets and effects (eg envelope, effects, transients etc) to dial in a “natural” extra tom sound that fits in with the other toms – I often find that I need more than just tuning up/down to get a tom to sound “right”. I have even “converted” some 2 tom setups in Hansa to give me 5 tom user kits.
I use “add instrument” and “search for instrument” so it loads the tom and appropriate channel setting. I have attached a screen shot to show so you can see my extra floortom complete with channel information and how I have tuned this one down.
Hope this helps.

Thanked by: DavidI agree that some of the SD3 core library Ride cymbals don’t have “bright” bow tip articulations. I do a few things to get around this. 1) choose ones that do have brighter tip articulations (and some SDX expansions have much better ride cymbals. 2) set up a dedicated ride channel so you can control better 3) adjust the four key volume areas – level in drums tab and velocity curve), close mic audio level in ride channel, ride bleed level on OH and any ambience channels that you choose to bleed the ride into, fade level in ride channel and I use a ride Bus so fader level for this and also a dedicated ride output channel so another fader to adjust. I have attached an over the top example of a loud and heavy ride just to show (not mixed just raw to show strong ride can be). This ride is my favourite – from The Progressive Foundry – 21″ Sabian Will Calhoun Signature Luna Ride

Thanks Ofek,
I look forward to getting into detail with the Rock Foundry SDX. Thanks more making this a quick and easy transfer. cheers, Andrew
