I agree that some of the SD3 core library Ride cymbals don’t have “bright” bow tip articulations. I do a few things to get around this. 1) choose ones that do have brighter tip articulations (and some SDX expansions have much better ride cymbals. 2) set up a dedicated ride channel so you can control better 3) adjust the four key volume areas – level in drums tab and velocity curve), close mic audio level in ride channel, ride bleed level on OH and any ambience channels that you choose to bleed the ride into, fade level in ride channel and I use a ride Bus so fader level for this and also a dedicated ride output channel so another fader to adjust. I have attached an over the top example of a loud and heavy ride just to show (not mixed just raw to show strong ride can be). This ride is my favourite – from The Progressive Foundry – 21″ Sabian Will Calhoun Signature Luna Ride

Hi Ofek, the $100 is my total offer (not with license fee added on top). If you intend adding license fee on top then you should say this up front as no one on this site so far has added license fee to their sell price. Thanks, Andrew

Yeah I have a feeling that some of the long standing requests (like ability to rearrange mixer channels, issues in above thread, fixing hi-hat articulation transitions etc) are likely to be in SD4 and not fixes applied to SD3 !! maybe I’m too cynical  ??

I often bind multiple faders to a single macro – use “bind to macro parameter” which is underneath “bind to cc” in Brad’s response above. The advantage is you can also name these. As an example I bind all ambience channels in one macro I call “AMB All” and then once I have set balance for each individual ambience channels, I then have the ability to fine tune and alter all ambience channels together (in same ratio) with the once macro knob. You can also do it for bus channels and outputs if you use multi channel output – whatever you require.

This helps me as I am an e-drummer and need to minimise amount of faders I adjust “at the kit”. Hope this is of use. cheers, Andrew

Hi Jord – I have a question and can also give some input on yr questions. I have just bought FOR and looks great but I need time to explore properly. From what you have seen is there anything in Rock Foundry that I cant get in FOR ? (refer my question earlier on in this thread)

I have D&D and Hansa (and now FOR) but not Decades. D&D and Hansa are awesome and from what I see of what you do and your comments above, I think these 2 would be best choice and can certainly say they are both my current favourites. FOR is now likely to be part of my top 3. Cheers, Andrew

I was going to buy Rock Foundry SDX, so I am glad I haven’t yet as FOR may be a better option. It is already the 5th where I am and no sign yet !!

I have a Yamaha DTX900 module and I just set up a user drum kit that I call “superior” for use with SD3. I just adjust the MIDI notes output by the module on this user kit to suit SD3 and my setup (pads/cymbals) as I use 38 separate triggers (not including hi hat). Then I remap if required in SD3 for any other SDX libraries so the one “superior” user kit on my module works for all kits/libraries I have set up in SD3. I also set up my own drum map in my DAW (Cubase) so it shows each of the 38 “instruments” I can trigger.

Hi Toontrack Development team. I think there are many of us who LOVE SD3 and think it is an AWESOME product but feel that there is one weakness pointed out by many users on this forum and other internet posts – the lack of smoothness and realism in Hi Hat transitions when used by e-drummers. It looks like there is a great opportunity here for Toontrack to take it to the next level and pretty much eliminate the one “weakness” identified. There are many experienced users/MIDI programmers such as some of those in this thread that are giving very definitive and informed options to improve. I echo MintberryCrunch and request that “it’s definitely worthy of further exploration”.

There would be lots of positive comments to a thread “Toontrack have fixed the Hi Hat transition issues and have THE BEST AND MOST REALISTIC electronic hi hat”. The challenge is there for the taking – over to you Toontrack.

    cheers, Andrew
