All I can say is I’ve upgraded my 2017 MacBook Pro to Catalina and I’ve had nothing but problems. Nothing works as it should. ProTools is a complete mess. I restart my computer every half hour because it is always telling me I’ve run out of ram. I can watch my internal ssd fill up with who knows what. I’ve dump 20 gigs of stuff from my internal drive, emptied the trash and somehow only picked up 2 gigs of space. My guess is your problems have to do with Catalina. I’ve owns almost every Mac made an have never had the problems I’ve had this this terrible update.

No actually what I meant was, is there a way to use SD3 to safely store food scraps?

Now you got me thinking. How do I get a Tupperware version?

How about some details about your example. Preset name, kick name, audio interface, playback settings, etc…? Have you listened to any of the kit demos before jumping in and buying SD3? They sound pretty good. Your example is confusing because it seems to get worse as the file plays down. If the MIDI info is a loop it should not change over time. There are a lot of people who swear by SD3, I don’t hear many that swear at it. Something doesn’t sound right with your rig. Give us more info so folks here can help you solve this.

Wow. Now that’s the way to explain a problem. I’ll try to replicate the problem and let you know how it goes. Only difference is that I’m running ProTools 12.5

This sounds like a Toontrack tech support issue. Something might actually be funky with the drive. Did you run Disk utility on it? I guess if you can’t mount it using that, you also can’t run the utility on it. I think you can update the driver without loosing all your data, but you’ll want double check that first.

Try reformatting the drive. I have an OWC Envoy Pro EX Thunderbolt 3 drive. It’s formatted as an APFS volume. The chance that you got a bad drive is really small.

Sorry that you are having latency issues. Your computer is certainly not the issue. I’m running off of a MacBook Pro i7 4core 2.7ghz w/16gb ram. I do however run my files off of a OWC Envoy Pro EX Thunderbolt 3 SSD which can run at 2800MB/s. So right off the bat, I’m getting my data really fast from my drive. The other thing I have, and this may be your problem, is an UA Apollo Twin X interface which also has a Thunderbolt 3 connection. My buffer size is 64 which gives me an output latency of 0.5 ms. I’m using a Trapkat and a couple of Drumkats to trigger SD3. Latency is not an issue at all. SD3 is not the issue, it must be somewhere in your setup. I don’t know how a PC works, I’m a Mac guy but I’ve run my setup without the Apollo (using just the Mac headphone out) and had no latency issues (just lack of fidelity). One issue I had early on was drop outs, but oddly enough when I told SD3 to only use one processor, the problem went away. That worked so I never went back to using more than one processor.

Bottom line, it’s not your kick ass computer, but in the preference settings. If you are looking to spend money (and who isn’t these days) look into an interface with Thunderbolt3 (like an Apollo, which by the way, has the greatest sounding plug-ins out there) and a SSD with TB3. Sorry I can’t be of more help with your PC.

When I first got SD3 and played my Trapkat, there was like a second delay. Not fun. Good luck, don’t give up on SD, it’s actually pretty great. And I’ve had pretty much every other drum VI out there.

Sorry, this is not an answer. But you bring up an interesting question. How about being able to build custom kits where yo can preassign the amount of drums and cymbals, etc. For instance 6 toms, 2 snares, 1 kick 2 hats, 8 cymbals, etc. This way when you build your kit, it looks like your kit.

I haven’t checked but is there a way to assign multiple instruments to the same midi note? That would simplify creating stacks with all articulations.

When I go on this forum I’m here for two reasons. 1. Information that I can use to make my experience with SD3 better and 2. To see if I can help someone else’s experience a little better. But unfortunately like Twitter and Facebook, I find myself wanting to defend my opinions or point out someone else’s shortcomings. DP, you may be the only person here that believes that somehow your rants are welcomed by anyone. Would I like a discount, sure. Do I think TT is being greedy by not giving us one, no. While I don’t keep track of my collections of kits, I do know I have all the greatest hits. I have more than enough kits to keep me busy until I’m able to go out and play a gig. That’s what I’m going to do, go through all of my kits and make sure I get the best out of them. I’m lucky enough to have a job that allows me to work from home so I consider my saved commuting time to be my time. That’s 2 hours a day. Not bad savings. You may want to count your blessings. If you don’t need to worry about money, you are certainly in a small minority. Also, unless you have experience as an actual prostitute, don’t disparage prostitutes. It’s probably the only profession older than being a musician.

That being said, if Toontrack put Orchestral Percussion on sale I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
But, they wouldn’t dare. That would be too genius. Just saying…

Could be that the audio buffer size in your interface is set to low. Could be a mismatch between the sample rate setting in SD3 and your system. I’m on a Mac with and an Apollo thunderbolt audio interface so I don’t really know about PCs. I know those things affect my playback.

I hear you. That’s the reason I have been using Pro Tools since it was Sound Designer, then Sound Tools and finally Pro Tools. It (almost) always worked for me for what I do, which is editing music for film. Luna is exciting because it looks like I may be able to use it as the host for SD3. I’d love to have complete flexibility to use UADs plug ins which are pretty great. I’m certainly not ready to give up Pro Tools (my subscription to PT Ultimate is good till Jan 31 2020) but it may be a good time to check it out since I already have a big investment in UA hardware and plug-ins. I’m going to upgrade my Mac to Catalina now and see how that goes. Just kidding…

I’ve opened Luna and was pleasantly surprised when SD3 showed up in my instrument list. I haven’t used it yet with my Trap Kat but when using my Axiom keyboard controller it seems to have little or no lag. Can’t wait to try it with my Kats. I’m sure the output thing will come in time. Right now I’m looking to see how fast it triggers over MIDI. ProTools never worked for me. I couldn’t get the buffer low enough without it crapping out. Always used SD3 as stand alone. Hopefully Luna will do it for me. I have an Apollo Twin Quad and the original Apollo Quad Thunderbolt. I’ll let you know how things are progressing.

    Here’s my request from July-

Midi program changes – The ability to call up kits/ presets over midi.

Setlists – The ability to create lists of kits/ presets without having to dig down into sub menus.

Perhaps the setlists can include program change numbers and tempo.

These things would help speed up things for those who play live gigs.
