Try going back through the search you did before. When you find one of basic grooves you saw, right click on it for options.
Try File – > Save or File – > Save Current as Default Project

Do you have EZD running in two DAW tracks?
Can you give us a copy of the MIDI?
Which EZD expansion (if any) and which room are you working in?
Two EZD tracks is the best way. The other is to load a sample into an instrument in Latin.
As well as what Scott says, where are in EZD are you dragging the MIDI? Can you give us screenshots?
Left click a drum and look in the box that opens towards top left of the EZD window. The right hand menu on it will show your EZXs, and the other will show you the drums you can choose from.
