Just record the midi. No need to send audio and convert.
By the way if the kick is playing a snare then just transpose it down a couple of semitones. Or get more involved and check the midi to see what note numbers has been assigned and check in sd3 what note number the snare is on and transpose the difference.

Thanked by: Scott Eshleman and drumjack52Yes you can separate all instruments in SD3 and turn of bleeds. I’m not able to get to my computer at the moment and can’t explain without going through it. Search Superior Drummer 3 mic routing on YouTube.

Have you gone onto the edrum page and checked out the presets available?

I run the ultimate power plan and I’ve stopped everything from falling asleep (usb and drives) I use my motherboards conservative overclock feature which takes my i9 9900k to about 5Ghz I’ve tried a few other things like C state but that didn’t make a difference. I find no difference between win 10 and win 11 as far as performance is concerned. I do find quite a few plugins these days are really power hungry. SD3 isn’t too bad though. I can’t think if anything else I’ve done. I can on some Cubase projects (C14 pro) push my i9 hard though.

It’s probably never been mentioned as I haven’t seen anyone find a problem with the GUI. If that is a problem for you then you really should have done your homework before buying and not just assume. There are plenty of music software without this type of feature. A simple look at SD3 YouTube videos would have revealed they all have the same GUI and a question on a forum would also have revealed that this feature did not exist. I know if something really matters to me I make sure I do my research.
A feature request is the way to go, as you have done. Not a rant though.

Thanked by: drumjack52So the sound can not actually be any different as mentioned in my first post. If you are using the same preset, then whether it’s played by the midi from the td17 or recorded midi from the td17 it will be exactly the same. Are you using something different to listen to the recorded midi as opposed to when you are actually playing the kit? Have you set up the triggering correctly on the td17? I ask as many don’t and it makes a big difference. The Roland modules are very forgiving with bad trigger settings. SD3 has a better dynamic range and will play whatever velocity is sent to it. Make sure you set your triggers for hard hits go hit a full velocity midi value of 127.
Also turn effects off when playing and drop ambience to get a more natural sound. I use my own presets for playing but then may swap for a different one for mixing.

Thanked by: Scott Eshleman and BabunessI can’t work out what the issue actually is from your post. What do you mean it doesn’t sound right? Is it latency or something else? If it sounds ok with midi playing it then when you play from the td-17 it is still just midi and playing exactly the same as when you record. What headphones are you using? Do they isolate well enough so you are not hearing the pad noise? If not, pad noise definitely changes your perception of the sound. To be clear what is generated by sd3 is no different with it being played by recorded midi or midi coming in.
So as far as latency is concerned (this can make playing feel not quite right if too high) have you gone into the control panel in windows and adjusted the td-17 driver to the lowest buffers it will go to? The Roland built in audio interface is ok but doesn’t get low latency like some dedicated audio interfaces (note I said some as not all audio interfaces have low latency). If you think the problem is latency then how much do you want to spend on an audio interface?

So are you saying you physically play in time but the midi is out if time for one of the three instances? What if you create a 4th instance and play a different drum? Is the midi in sd3 or on a track in the DAW?

Do you use the same keyboard to record the midi for bass, snare and hi hats? If you do then that can’t be it. Do you hear the delay when you monitor while recording the midi? If not then again it’s something else. I don’t use pro tools but are you sure you haven’t got anything different on the kick track?

So if you solo each of those tracks in sd3 you get missing hits every so often in one and if you solo the other you get just one hit now and again? What happens if you raise the velocity of the note that only plays in the amb ribbon? Does it then play in oh dyn? What is the cc value for positional sensing on the one that plays in the amb ribbon? Is it different to the other notes cc value?

I do agree. I can never remember which pack I used. It would be useful if the presets remembered the pack and then switched to the correct one. Also a user preset manger so we could order them how we like. I rarely use the presets supplied and if I do I change them and save as my own.

Its not in the menu of midi setup. Go to Midi in/E-Drum Settings edrum settings. It’s on the right hand bar on the main page and will take you there. On the right side also is Midi Mapping. That’s the one you don’t want to change. It might be a good idea to have a look through the manual.
