So Roland are known for good triggering, without too much messing around and have really low midi latency, which is essential. Alesis have higher latency so you can add that to the latency of the audio interface. I used to use an old ddrum4 kit which triggered great. I tried a millennium kit at a church once and found the triggering awful. I am used to using a td50x though with all three digital pads.

Yes about right. The newer modules support pads and cymbals that have been released later than your module and there maybe slight improvements in the triggering. A lot of people prefer to use a cymbal and the fd7 or fd9 hi hat controller. I have the td50x with the digital hi hat vh14d and this feels better than the vh11/vh12/vh13 (I have tried them all! ) I haven’t tried a cymbal pad and an fd though.

I found the easiest way was to enable midi out in sd3, select follow host, create a midi track with no output(to avoid a loop), play the track and record the midi on the new midi track as it comes out of sd3. Make sure you select sd3 as the input. I found this works better than messing with tempo tracks. After you have done this disable midi out and send the midi track to sd3.

There is no reason it should be different in your DAW. I use mine standalone and in Cubase and there is no difference. So if you use the exact same preset in standalone and your DAW it is quieter in the DAW? If so you have answered your own question where the problem lies.

SD3 is very flexible in this respect. I like it like this and wouldn’t want it dumbed down.

yes it will. Did you also look at the module usb audio setting as you can usually boost this (I could on my td30 and now in my td50x). I would then just turn the cymbals volume up as I mentioned earlier.

You can’t use a td20 as an audio interface. It doesn’t have one! You are getting mixed up here. You need a midi interface to get midi from the the td20 into your computer. Better still as mentioned above an audio interface but one that has midi ports as well.

You then have to install them. The download is not the installation. In the toontrack download manager you have a download button and when downloaded you have the option to install.

So I record all my midi in my DAW (Cubase) I just go into the drum editor and select the notes I want to be on a different articulation and drag them there. For me this is just usually when I’ve missed a rim shot or hit one when I shouldn’t have but would work in your scenario too.

I take it the aero drums can’t recognise you playing between side stick and snare?

Ok so this does not happen when the td50x has not had midi out notes altered and the td50x preset is used in sd3. I know because that is what I started with and then modified.
So I see the learn function under edrums has been fixed in the latest version. You could try removing all note numbers on the toms and then using the learn  function. Or just the tom that is triggering.

The way I do it is to make a record of all the generated midi notes and what triggered them(I record in Cubase and the note them down) I then manually put them in within sd3. Or again just do it for the offending notes.

Had you changed something then as you should not need to touch anything midi on the main page. I have never changed anything there.

Try loading your edrum preset again or load one you use for the standard library and see if that works. I don’t see this problem at all in D&D so it’s not the library.
