You can move them anywhere you like as long as you then point sd3 to where they are. Make sure the drive is always present before starting sd3 or your DAW. What type of drive do you have? Depending on the type of drive and the connection method will determine how quickly the kits will load.

The drums are recorded clean. To get more snap live they probably need eq and a bit of compression. This is where you could do with an audio interface with more outputs than the td27 so the sound a can control it. If not then try do it in the sd3 mixer section.

When my td50x module came it still had the crossover point enabled for side stick which is not required with the digital snare. Maybe yours is like this? My snare plays great with side stick rimshot and PS using the td50x preset.

I just never put the midi in sd3. I always have it in the DAW. I do have Cubase though which has a great drum editor.

I’ve printed plenty out from Cubase pro. There’s loads. Do you mean free software?

Both can be pointed at their respective libraries so just install the plugin and point at the sample location. I’m not at home but it’s quite simple and in one of the menus on sd2 and sd3

Not sure how there would be another work round the first one as you send one note number from the module? The next is a very specific feature request for two modules only. It’s not a bug. There is no guarantee that it would be implemented at all. By the way I have a td50x with the digital pads but not everyone does so it may not be a priority.

Midi learn is ok but with cymbals trying to hit just tip and edge separately can be a pain. Also the presets can have multiple note numbers. I leave the snare, ride and hi hat as per preset and clear the rest out and add manually. The result is a lot cleaner. It’s good to know all your note numbers as it makes life a lot simpler if you need to troubleshoot.

Go to the edrum page and change the notes of the cymbals to the ones the module is sending. You could even swap the input of the trigger on the module. You can also change the midi out note on the module. The td30 manual should give you the default out notes as well. When I had the td30 I just recorded the each drum into my DAW and noted down the note numbers. I then just changed them. The td30 map in sd3 is a good start but doesn’t really use the aux trigger inputs how you may use them. You can save your own modified mapping in the edrum page.

It sounds like you are getting xtalk on the module between cymbals if hitting one is triggering others as well. Check the xtalk settings on the td30 where you can see what other pads are triggering. Then adjust to remove. It’s better to sort any triggering issues in the module first.

One of the reasons I enable midi out in sd3 and record in real time tracker midi to a midi track in my DAW. Also saves configuring tempo maps which when it’s free time audio is not really feasible.

Ah the um-1 does not have midi sockets but plugs, so no cables involved but the um-1 itself. So yes the manual says on one of the cables to midi out and the other says to midi in. So that is what you should do. Mist midi interfaces are sockets and labelled midi in and midi out which is different.
So you really could do with a midi cable which has plugs on both end (male) and do what I said earlier which is; loop in and out on the td20 with local turned off. When you do that and play the td20 it should be triggering the internal sounds via midi and not internally. This will prove that the module is sending midi.

By the way thru on a Roland module is soft through and is usually midi out and thru combined. Worth looking at the settings though and choosing either out or soft through (can’t remember the actual terms but the td20 manual will show that)

I checked the td20 manual and it is either out or soft thru. Both will still send midi when pads are hit. Do try both though.

Is this an original um-1 or the um-one mkii? Either way you should see the midi indicator on the um flash when you hit a pad if connected correctly. The manual says the selector button (mkii) should be set to comp and the driver installed.

You say midi out to midi out and midi in to midi in. That is wrong.

It should be midi out of the module to midi in on the um-one and midi out of the um-one to midi in of the td20. Local should be switched off.

To play sd3 you only need the midi out of the td20 to the midi in of the um-one. You don’t need to send midi back to the td20 and you don’t need to turn local off. That is only required if you want the midi to play the td20.

So you are definitely going from the td20 midi out to the midi in of the um-one?  In settings on sd3 under midi/audio, in the midi do you see the um-one and is it ticked? There is nothing else to do if you have done this correctly.
To test the td20 midi is working turn local off and connect midi out to midi in (basically a loop). If you can play the td20 sounds then you know the midi on the td20 is good and the cable you are using is good. Make sure local is off to do this otherwise you will get a feedback loop.
If this works then the problem is with the um-one. I’m a pc user so not sure what you would do on a Mac.

Click on the cymbal then in the bar across the top click on the cymbal and choose “search for instrument” you can choose any cymbal in the core library or any other library you may have.

Or simply right click the cymbal and choose “search for instrument”
