The td6 has a standard din midi out. What exactly are you plugging it into? Have you bought a midi interface and if so what is it?

That is very odd. I have it working on a win 11 machine with the latest win version and sd3 without seeing this. Have you used the toontrack installer app? Did you install as administrator and for all users?

There are three zones. Is that what you have setup?

The back beat snare is usually 127 but will depend on the material. I also play rim shots at 127 for really heavy stuff. There is no specific velocity though. When a drummer hits a consistent back beat it usually is the hardest hit. If I’m recording real drums I hit the snare full on or full on rim shot as it gives the best tone and cuts through better. I have my edrums setup so those translate to 127. Ghost notes can be almost anything below 50 depending on the snare used in sd3. There is no formula where you can use a certain velocity and it will be right. The beauty of sd3 is the randomise equal velocity hits, as when playing real drums no hits sound exactly the same.

Thanked by: Scott Eshleman, pumpkinking and drumjack52It’s not how drummers play though. There is always a slight variation in playing which is what makes it sound real. I record by playing in with my ekit. I will do some editing, mainly to get rid of mis triggers and clean up hi hat cc data. I may also go through and alter a few snare and kick notes if the velocity is too far out. Otherwise I like to keep it feeling as organic as possible. Drummers don’t play in fixed velocity ranges with exact samples. You may as well just get a sample pack and use something else for that. SD3 is about realism.

You need to check what is being sent. Do the notes exist? If you record in Ableton on a midi track (not sd3) are all the notes there that you played? If you send that midi to sd3 does it trigger the tide sounds ok. If a sound doesn’t work do you see anything else trying to trigger.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanI think toontrack made a big mistake adding midi editing in sd3. I preferred it when it was just a drum sampler and just used it in a DAW. I think having midi in sd3 just over complicates things and gets all these problems where people want DAW function within sd3. Sd3 isn’t a DAW. Even if this gets implemented there will always be something that a DAW can do better. I would prefer that the programming effort went into adding more edruming features and refining to make it even more playable than it presently is. I used a DAW for the original superior drummer, sd2 and now sd3. Sd3 has come a long way but making it a midi editor was not one in my opinion. I see no reason to follow ezdrummer which for me is a different product aimed at a different audience.

It should be fairly easy to edit the send notes in the spdx. I know it was on my old spd8 years ago.

That may be an edge case then as I really don’t mind it as is and never watch the drummer play. The drums light up to see what is happening when setting up. Probably wasn’t designed with what you have in mind. You never know though and it may not be that hard to fix for them.

Thanked by: drumjack521st step is to make sure you are getting 127 on what would be your hardest hits, or maybe even less than hardest. I tend to do it a little less as I want a full 127 on backbeats. Just don’t go too far otherwise you lose dynamics and ghost notes. Roland modules tend to be far more forgiving over trigger settings. SD3 is very dynamic and will play exactly was is input. What are you using as an audio interface? If you are using the v71 you can actually up the usb return volume (I think as you can on the td50x and other modules) also SD3 has a master fader you can turn up. The kits that come with SD3 do tend to be a bit quieter than the expansion SDXs

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanHave you set the audio device in SD3? Does your audio interface have an ASIO driver? If so that should be selected in sd3

I mix and match and adjust each level on the main page so the sliders in the mix tab are all still in the same place. I then save as a preset with a new name. I mostly create my own kits and rarely use a preset. If I do use a preset I will change it to suit what I’m doing then save under an appropriate name.

It’s just a preset. I thought everyone just used them as a starting point and then adjusted to how they wanted it.
