I do the same as Mark. I do all my editing in Cubase as well. Having said that:

If you have time signature changes in Cubase and do not duplicate them in SD3, then your measure numbers in SD3 won’t match in Cubase. This is one of the main reasons I do all of my drum editing in Cubase. I just found it very difficult to try to keep the two entities matched in bars and beats. So this could be the cause of the timing not matching up between the two if you are dragging MIDI to a matching bar/beat from Cubase to SD3.

They do go on sale and I’ve seen quite a few in the 2 1/2 years I’ve using SD3. However, I have never seen the Bob Rock or the Orchestral SDX’s go on sale.

    Just keep your eyes peeled!

Yes I do. Actually there tons of them.
    1. Did you install all of the SD3 downloads? Make sure you did that.

    2. Go to the settings menu and pull down to Advanced. There you can try to “Restore MIDI Database” and check again. (To be safe, make sure that nothing is selected in the Genre, Play Style, Type, and Power Hand areas, and that you have selected Superior Drummer 3 in the Superior Libraries in the lower right in the SD3 window when the Grooves Tab is selected)

If you are still stuck here’s another thing to try:
Right click on ‘Superior Drummer 3’ in the same area as mentioned above in #2. (Lower right corner with the Grooves Tab selected) Then choose “Open in Explorer” and make sure the grooves are there.

Hope one of these solves your problem!

The SD3 Core library that comes with SD3 when you purchase it contains a lot of drum kits, presets, and MIDI grooves. For many people the core library would fill their needs. But there are many great SDX’s, EZX’s, and MIDI packs that you can add on to SD3 for even more versatility and cool stuff.

I noticed this problem when I first got SD3 over a year ago and am kinda surprised it’s still an issue. It was only a problem when the grid editor was open and I was recording or playing back.

So, I stopped using the grid editor and I now just drag any grooves I use directly into my DAW (Cubase Pro) and do the editing there. Now everything works fine.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your question. I use a keyboard to input MIDI and simply playing a note triggers whatever drum sound I want to EQ and apply effects. One could do the same with triggers from a kit.

I have been using SD3 for just over two years and I’ve never seen the Rock Foundry on sale. However, I did eventually purchase it and it’s definitely one of my favorites. To my ears, it’s one of the best sounding SDX’s available.

I don’t think you can do that. There are bass VI’s that allow this from ImpactSoundworks and Waves, and I wish that Toontrack would add this ability on EZBass as well.

If anybody reads this and has been able to do what is asked above, please let us know. Also let use know if you have found a way to change the “tightness” of a muted string as well.

Yes, the EZX expansion packs also include new drum samples as well. If you’re talking about just MIDI Packs, then you are correct. You could create those yourself if you’re are one hell of a drummer. The MIDI packs are played by professional drummers and the subtleties and articulations in these packs are great and are not something I could program myself being a keyboard player. So these are very valuable to me. Not only that, but I find them inspirational as well. Most of the time I’ll write part and then fine a groove that’s close to what I want and edit the groove to fit what I have written. But occasionally I have edited what I’ve written to fit the groove simply because the groove was so cool.

So, to answer your question is, yes, the MIDI packs are only MIDI events and you certainly create these yourself. But the grooves in these packs are really good. Of course, you can listen to any Toontrack products, including the grooves, on their website. You can also download MIDI grooves from within Superior Drummer3 and check them out that way as well.

You have to have the key-switch event happen before the note you want it to affect. It can happen in the middle of the previous note without affecting that note.

MIDI events do not last through what we think is the duration of a note. A MIDI note is an “on” event later followed by an “off” event, of which, gives you the duration of the note. (to put it very simply). So, a key-switch cannot affect a change in the middle a note. So, make sure you key-switch starts before the note starts.

Excellent! I knew that SD3 had that option but was not sure about EZBass.

One thing I’ve noticed is that Toontrack thinks of pretty much any possible problem and usually has a fairly easy fix for it.

    Glad it’s working for you!

What bass packs are they? You’re just talking about MIDI, not samples, right? What is the file format of your bass pack?

I have not yet tried this but what I would do is create one of my own grooves and save it. Then I would check find the containing folder and see if the file format is the same as the files in your MIDI pack. If that’s the case I would open the folder where my saved groove was saved and drag the 3rd party files to that folder.

There might me another simpler way, but I don’t have EZBass in front of me right now. I will be working with it later tonight (U.S. CST). If the above doesn’t help you, let me know and I’ll check it out for you when I can.

I have this same question. In other guitar-based Virtual Instruments it’s a setting called “Hand Position”. This is selectable and changeable in real time or via automation with CC messages allowing you to choose where on the neck the hand is placed. You can also set the “size” the the hand to cover as many or as few frets you wish to be used. Is there an equivalent for EZBass?
