Every kit has demo files on its home page. For instance, go to:
https://www.toontrack.com/product/superior-drummer-3/ and scroll down to “Audio Demos”

Each SDX also has audio previews of the kits that are included in that expansion pack.

If you already own Superior Drummer 3 just play some of the grooves that come with it.

    Drumjack,
Oh, I totally get it. I’ve worked for a number of music software companies and have heard horror stories from other tech support folks as well. One of the best ones was back when the Mac’s were in two pieces with the monitor sitting on top of the computer case.  (See Macintosh II)  It went something like this:

I can’t see Finale on my computer screen.
    Is the computer turned on?
    Yes,
    Is the monitor turned on?
    Yes
Is the monitor connected to the computer? ”
    I don’t know
Can you go to the back of the computer to check?”
It’s too dark to see anything back there because our power is out.

One of those, “The problem seems to be between the computer and the chair”, moments.

I know nothing about Logic, but most DAWs have a drum map editor which you make only once for each kit you have and then you can choose which one to use for any given kit. I’m a Cubase guy and there are many places to download free drum maps for that DAW. You can also build your own. And while doing this is a PITA, you only have to do it once and your done.

    Thanks for the response!

I don’t think I have any other Instrument plugin that don’t allow for the changing of MIDI channels. And you’re right. It seems that EZBass is always in Omni mode.

I too am always looking for odd time signatures. The only EZBass MIDI packs I know of  that have some odd time sigs are Fusion (7/8 and 9/16), and Modern Funk (7/8).

I don’t know why Steinberg would not use the .drm windows suffix for Dorico but my guess is that it has something to do with music notation. And that makes sense since Dorico would need extra information for that.

Most all of the drum maps on my download page I made in Cubase myself. (many of the EZX maps I found online for free and included them on my page)

In researching your problem I see that you can also build your own percussion maps in Dorico. It’s kind of a PITA, is somewhat tedious, and can take a bit of time, but it seemed worth i to me. So I found these relevant links:

    https://forums.steinberg.net/t/how-to-percussion-maps/916168
    https://archive.steinberg.help/dorico_elements/v2/en/dorico/topics/play_mode/play_mode_percussion_maps_defining_custom_t.html

    Playback Templates for Dorico

The last link is to free percussion maps for Dorico. I don’t see any Toontrack maps there, but maybe you have some of the other plugins mentioned on this page

I hope this helps you out!

I don’t know if I understand your question. You can drag the audio into the tracker and let SD3 “decode” it  and then you can put that audio file anywhere you want.

You can audition the resulting MIDI with any of the SD3 libraries. But it will take some time to load the samples with each library change.

My guess is that all of their resources are being used on Superior Drummer 4. It’s a logical consideration in that EZ Drummer 3 now has features that SD3 does not. But that is certainly no excuse for their lack of fixing products that they have acknowleged have problems. I don’t know what has happened with Toontrack. I do remember when they were a great company, their updates were solid, and they were responsive to users’ issues on these forums.  Now, none of that is true. It seems they have  lost their way and at this point are mostly involved in making money by trying to gain new customers at the expense of taking care of their existing ones. This is the same thing that has happened with other plugin companies that have gotten too big for their britches. (you know of whom I speak…)

If your MIDI controller or electronic drum set isn’t showing up in the manufacturer presets or want to have a custom MIDI map for your controller, you can use the MIDI Learn function which assigns the sample to the pad of your choice. To do this, select the sample you wish to change in the MIDI In/E-Drums settings, click Learn, then hit a pad. For more information, visit the MIDI Mapping section of the Superior Drummer 3 manual.

At the bottom of the Tracker Window you will see two lanes. (See image)
Using these for both instrument recognition and velocity levels will let you easily remove the unwanted tom hits.
I assume that the tom bleeds are softer than the kick so just rasing the velocity ‘bar’ will filter out all the extraneous hits.

I have purchased Drum MIDI from Odd Grooves and they map their drums for a number of different drum plugins including EZ Drummer and Superior Drummer 3.

    Hey, Andrew!

    OK, here we go.
    I’ve attached two images below.

    Drum Map Pull down.jpg:
#1. Make sure your SD3 track is setup to be a Drum Track
#2. Go over to the Inspector and click on “No Drum Map”. You will get the pulldown menu you see in the image. If you want to use a GM map choose that, otherwise choose “Drum Map Setup”

    Drum Map Setup. jpg
#3. Click on “Functions” in the upper left corner
#4. If you want to load one of your own drum maps choose “Load” and navigate to the folder where you have saved your drum maps. If you want to create a new drum map choose “New Map”

Then you want to go back and click on the drum stick icon as shown in the Drum Map Pull down.jpg (#1) In the resulting pop down menu you should see the drum map you loaded in the previous window. Choose it and you’re good to go! You should see your mappings in the Key Editor Window.

Do the same for any other SD3 track.

Here’s a link to the SD3 (EZX and SDX) drum maps I have found or created myself. If you find any errors let me know and I’ll correct them.

I run multiple instances of SD3 in Cubase quite often, and have not had the problems you are having.
How do you create your drum maps? I have created a bunch of my own for Cubase (which I’m happy to share with you) and I usually name them after the SDX I am creating them for. I have an Orchestral 1, Orchestral 2, Darkness, Rock Foundry, etc.

I just realized that they changed how this is done in Cubase 13. It’s a bit different than it was in 12 and before.

Let me know what version of Cubase you are using and I’ll give you instructions.
