I do this…
(need a Mac)
Roland TD-27 with the following pads/cymbals:
KT-10 – Kick , PD-140DS – Snare , VH-14D – Hi-Hat , (3) PDX-100 – Three Toms, CY-14C-T – Left Cymbal, CY-18DR – Ride Cymbal , CY-16R-T – Right Cymbal.
TD-27 USB Out to MacBook Pro.
Superior Drummer 3 in Standalone Mode, and internally routed OUT (think virtual mics):
1) Kick In – routed to 3
2) Kick Out – routed to 4
3) Kick Sub – routed to 5
4) Snare Top – routed to 6
5/6) Snare Bottom – routed to 7/8
7/8) Hi-Hat panned in SD3 – routed to 9/10
9/10) All Toms individually panned in SD3 – routed to 11/12
11/12) All Cymbals – routed to 13/14
13/14) Overheads – routed to 15/16
15/16) Ambiance – routed to 17/18
(Outs 1/2 are the DAW stereo monitor channels)
Send internally to: Apollo x16 Interface Analog Outs.
FROM the Apollo x16 Analog OUTs, send to external Hardware Effects/Processors.
Return Hardware Effects/Processors’ outs to Apollo x16 Analog INs
Apollo x16 internally sends to DAW – I use either Luna or Logic.
16 tracks:
Three MONO Kick tracks
One MONE Snare Top track
Two Stereo Snare Bottom Tracks
Two Stereo Hi-Hat Tracks (panning done in SD3)
Two Stereo Toms Tracks (panning done in SD3)
Two Stereo Cymbals Tracks
Two Stereo Overheads Tracks
Two Stereo Ambiance Tracks
Same as tracking with a REAL Drum Kit!
ALSO, I record a MIDI track (in DAW) for a back up performance if quantizing is necessary.
Can also tweak the MIDI (quantize, change velocities, etc.) after drummer leaves, then IMPORT the Tweaked MIDI into SD3 and “Bounce to Audio”. Next, Import “fixed” audio into DAW.

Thanked by: Frank PalazzoFor those wishing to use SD3, in a multitrack way, in Luna – as it now supports Core Audio.
I just started using this method. It’s a work around to a multi-out instrument (that is not available in Luna). You will need a digital audio interface. I use an RME Digiface USB.
Launch SD3 in Standalone Multi-Out mode.
Assign the 16 SD3 stereo channels to the 32 outs of the RME Digiface USB.
Loop back the ADAT OUTS in to the ADAT INS, of the Digiface.
In Apple’s Audio MIDI Setup, select (use) the Digiface.
Launch Luna, turn on Core Audio.
Create 16 STEREO Audio Tracks, in Luna. Assgin to corresponding 32 Digiface ADAT channels, in pairs, to these audio tracks.
Voila! Multitrack SD3 is available.
I can play SD3 from my V-Drums into multi-channel Luna. Can also do multitrack/channel from my TD-27 into Luna.
When I do this in Logic, I set the SD3 mixer levels to “0 (zero)”, and mix in Logic. Apparently, you can now do this in Luna.
Still need a multi-out instrument for Luna!!!
Is this not the idea of using Superior Drummer 3?
Just don’t sell, for your profit, the individual samples or libraries.
Maybe a Toontrack lawyer will chime in.
