I’m just wondering how this question could be relevant?
Does that affect the application of the product?

What speaks against two different tracks? A track for the drums and a second track for the percussion?

The less you know your stuff, the more you need to be able to hear your stuff. And the more you are able to hear your stuff, the less you need advanced theory.
In the past I had satisfying results by just giving EZkeys the bass line. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t work 😉
It has been my experience that sometimes it is better not to deviate too much from the simple major and minor chords. Especially in the early phase of song writing.
If you are hardly experienced in playing piano and you are looking for some kind of a sophisticated chord progression I think you will need one of the following three things:
My advice is to give EZkeys what you have and then listen to the suggestions. EZkeys can do your work within certain boundaries. The pre-built EZkeys MIDI patterns can match your creation within certain boundaries. And how can a MIDI pattern, that follows its own line, match an explicit melody? The answer is either not or just by accident.
If the guitar is your #1 instrument then act like you were sitting at the campfire and find the right chords on the one instrument that you are familiar with! Because then you have a self-contained genuine concept which you can apply to EZkeys.
Well, that sounds a little bit like “I, Robot” – limited answers and right questions 😉 But isn’t that exactly the way it works?

The Toontrack MIDI pattern has a certain flow.
And amongst other things that flow depends on a certain structure and relation of the octaves which the several chords are laying in.
When we force an octave jump that doesn’t match with the original flow of the MIDI data, then the chord transitions have to be played differently.
I don’t think that some kind of an automation would be helpful.
After applying the Toontrack MIDI pattern we can easily adjust every single chord.
So I would expect automation to be more of a problem rather than a positive extension.
I am of the opinion that subsequent adjustment is the better way to go.
So if you really want to update EZkeys, please make sure this new feature is only optional!

all of the above contain brushes.
Custom Shop EZX and Jazz EZX do have brush presets, too.
The Custom Shop EZX preset “Brushes Uptempo” sounds great.

Thanked by: MagnusVidmoI don’t think that there is something like this (yet).
In Cubase you can use the MIDI data of one track also for a different track, which could be a string sound. This might be an alternative to solve your problem.

Thanks for reminding me that I forgot a THE CLASSIC walkthrough sounds demo 😉
I like this EZX very much. Of course it has to fit into the whole arrangement. And the more expansions you have the smaller is the chance that you choose THE CLASSIC instead of a genre dedicated one. But THE CLASSIC clearly has its right to exist 😉
What makes the EZX special to me is that it sounds like a drumset you could find really anywhere. If you are very versatile in songwriting you will surely find several application possibilities for this non genre specific expansion.
The following links show where I used THE CLASSIC in my Youtube clips.

The Singer Songwriter Pack comes with 10 songs.
Each song has 5 parts. Each part has 4 variations.
That is a total of 200 MIDI files. I don’t think that 200 MIDI files means too few possibilities.
As far as I am concerned, being limited to 4/4 is okay because most of my songs use four-four time.
When it comes to tempo, a lot of the common songs I write fit in a range between 60 bpm and 120 bpm.
Let’s not forget that there are several other Toontrack EZkeys MIDI Packs that are dedicated collections for particular genres.
But I admit that the name “Singer Songwriter Pack,” as well as the whole concept of a songwriter MIDI pack, is a kind of squaring of the circle. At least nowadays! Because when we search the internet for singers and songwriters, the results are extremely different. In fact, we have fluid boundaries between what goes by the generic term “songwriting” and what can clearly be assigned to a particular genre.
A negative criticism like this one made me prompt to release demo videos on my Youtube channel. So, interested musicians can hear what to expect from a EZdrummer 2 EZX or EZmix 2 Pack or EZkeys instrument or EZkeys MIDI Pack.

That clearly is associated with some effort, but as users we can help each other getting a complete overview. Like a Wikitoontrackia or Toonipedia…

You can, of course, fill water into condoms to make water bombs, but condoms were not invented for that.
I am of the opinion that EZkeys is not the tool that MAKES YOU write new songs, but rather a great tool that HELPS YOU writing new songs.
In my experience, EZkeys MIDI fits perfectly with a range of playing styles, patterns and grooves.
Since EZkeys is just a tool, the MIDI can only be suitable for your new song if the characteristics of your new song match those of the MIDI.
When it comes to writing songs, the possibilities are unlimited, unlike a MIDI collection.
Concerning that one has to make decisions and one also has to set limits. A healthy middle course must be found.
And I think that is exactly what Toontrack is aiming for with the EZkeys MIDI packages.
I see more of a problem in the expectations, probably caused by the current zeitgeist.
Today we are used to starting hundreds of processes by pressing only one single knob. Twenty years ago it was more like “no pain, no gain”.
I currently have 23 MIDI packages in my EZkeys browser.
Finding the right MIDI for a new song is sometimes pretty time-consuming, and sometimes seemingly impossible, and sometimes only satisfying when I combine parts of different lines. But there are also new creations that are perfectly supported by EZkeys MIDI. Quite often, a style crossover fits very well 😉
The higher the number of options, the lower the chance of quickly finding the right MIDI.
So, the only thing that I really miss in Toontrack EZkeys is an appropriate way of searching for MIDI lines that fit to a very specific rhythmic.
Something that matches with accents and emphasis. Whatever it might look like?
To name another example, there are more than 30 preset packs in my EZmix browser, but I almost never use just one of those presets for a track in the final mix.
It is great to quickly approach an idea without being forced to include several plugins and change several settings – BUT WITH the freedom of starting apart from usualness.
When a new song bases on guitar, I always load the Cubase Preset and then the first thing is opening EZmix on the guitar track and changing the sound until it fits to the current mood.
Okay, that’s a bit off-topic now. But only a little.
EZkeys MIDI provides you with common material for different genres.
EZkeys itself on the one hand supports you concerning the integration and on the other hand helps you when it comes to quickly trying alternative chords or finding the missing parts within your structure.
Combined, tool and MIDI, along with your ideas, can play a role that is a bit like what a second musician would do. Lead you on a path that you would not have found alone.
And that, without you taking the opportunity to create something completely new.
If you found a tool that suits better to your personal needs then it is great.
But I think that EZkeys definitely is a recommendation for songwriters.
Especially if piano is not one’s main instrument 😉
And let us not forget, EZkeys MIDI can also help improving your playing skills.

I would totally agree if I did not already use the Arturia B3.
Nevertheless, Rock Organ sounds could definitely be a great addition to the EZkeys range of instruments.
When I was just reading this post, I wondered, where is the Make-a-Wish section at toontrack.com?
