I was having this exact same issue, and after contacting support, what they told me may help other users.
In my case I found that my MIDI controller mappings (that is the custom setup I created between my Maschine Mikro Mk3 and EZ Drummer 3 Standalone), were not being saved as part of the Default Project.
Basically (and MASSIVELY confusingly) it seems that even though my mappings ARE saved with a Project (i.e. they are retained if I load the Project manually), if I then set that same project as Default Project, then those same mappings ARE NOT recalled when the Default Project loads. This makes it seem that the Default Project either didn’t load or wasn’t overwritten when I did File/Set Current to Default Project, when in fact it did and was, except that the MIDI mappings were not loaded.
You have to ALSO save those mappings and make them default in a separate place which is Settings/E-Drums/MIDI-In… you then have to expand the Preset menu, save your mappings as a User Preset and (if desired) set that to default (Set Current State to Default), then save your Project again and set that to default (as described above).
Then when you open EZ Standalone, it will be ready to work straight away with your controller and mappings of choice (at least until they update the sofware, maybe ;-).
I hope this saves someone else a lot of frustration!

This looks interesting, but as a non-programmer I’d like more info on how to set this up/implement it, ideally in Cubase 12. I’ve taken a look at Tiny/Quickstart, but still have no clue what that’s all about. Idiot’s guide?
Cheers!
