Got your piece of string ready nimrod? I’m sure there are some drummers who can help out but as a musician with no percussion knowledge if it sounds good it is good, if it sounds right it is right. Let your ear guide you rather than YouTube or a pdf.

When it comes to mixing drums the consensus seems to be Eddie Kramer’s Legacy of Rock is one of the best recorded and mixed drum libraries we’ve all heard – good place to start

yeah I already posted about that yesterday – no response yet but assume it will be fixed in an update soon. For now just change the power hand to your gong for that lovely big splash at the end of your metal masterpiece.

    1. How much would it cost to upgrade memory on a Mac? 2. It may even be soldered to the board so you can’t.

Mark it’s great you have a good experience with your chosen computer – but since you know absolutely nothing about an Apple Mac (1. The same price for DDR3/4 as a Windows PC from Crucial.com or any other memory chip vendor; and 2. Don’t be stupid) hold fire on telling us how bad they are please mate.

I see so many Mac related problems with DAWs and SD3 than win 10 pc related issues.

You are kidding right? I’ve only had SD3 a few weeks and been on the forum as long but there are way more Win 10 signatures that OS 10.x

Of course Logic is out of the window as it’s Mac only. Good old Apple love to tie you down.

So you can’t open a Logic file in Pro Tools – you can’t open a Pro Tools file in Cubase – DAW’s no matter what OS don’t talk to one another – can’t remember the last time I had a blue screen of death on a Mac (I haven’t), or had to rummage through a drawer to install drivers for a new printer (I haven’t)….

As a matter of fact, you can order a drive from ToonTrack already pre-loaded.  Save you a lot of time downloading…

But cost you a lot more for the sake of waiting a few hours

you can run all the extra files on an external drive

Jord you’re spot on – these kits are my favourite of any drums I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to, let alone record – with the possible exception of Mike Portnoy’s from DT’s “Scenes From a Memory” album and tour.

The only MIDI I have that doesn’t work without modification seems to be the Metal ones which have the China symbol as the power hand – not the biggest problem a producer has ever had.

Possibly the biggest impact this has had on my workflow though, is I’ve spent a few hours today analysing the mixer for some of the my favourite kits and presets in LOR and I’m going to try to see if applying some of this to the SD3 bigger kits gets me in the same ballpark. I know it’s a big ask – different studio and desk, different mics and pre’s, kits and engineers but fun to try.

If I could find a mix which opens up the SD3 5 tom, 10 cymbal kits to this plug and play approach I’ll be asking for Eddie Kramer to get a knighthood in the New Year’s Honour lists.

Got the Legacy of Rock pack, and I found that if I use the ‘Hands On’ preset, it’s buggy. Sometime the snare doesn’t load, other times the cymbals don’t load.

Is the file loading completely? Mine is 1472MB and don’t have an issue with it in SD3 – not tried it in DAW yet.

Seriously though, I’ve been just dropping some of the base kits into mixes in Logic tracks and after adjusting levels they just work.

Obviously there aren’t enough toms and cymbals for my Prog Rock Opera in C# Minor but even for more expansive compositions like this having access to the Timpani’s, the Gong – and of course the Cowbell’s (two of them!!!!) will add to any kits you already have.

Will have to write a song with it called, “Begging For Forgiveness (When I Should’ve Asked Permission).

    Toontrack Superior Hits 1

B-side is Waiting on the Down Low(d)

Out of interest which Helios Plugin are you using BFC? I guess the UAD one from the name but just checking…

Done a few quick tests of my own now – Blues, Rock, Metal, Prog – the Amber kit can do it all. It’s the sound of my youth and being a guitar player and not a drummer I never knew what my own music was missing until now. Thank you TT and Eddie Kramer for making this available to us all.

Meh! Everything in rock and roll is “borrowed“ 😀

Not my B minor diminished hexatonic run supported by timpani splashes and cowbell – surely?

Superior Drummer 3 version 3.2 obviously as LOR wouldn’t install on the old one.

Does it really dovetail with D&D well? I imagined that but if you have both do you get the best of both worlds?

Not managed to download LOR yet – have to share the home WI-FI with the kids and my wife who is still working from home but how to try it out tonight.

I might have to break the bank for this SDX. I’ve had to restrain myself holding off on the others, but this one might be worth feeling the pinch.

After watching Mike Luke’s review of it, and then some of the video’s of Norman playing and Eddie talking about it how they mike’d it up I was already coming up with new riffs which would fit the drums – had to stream Led Zep on Spotify this afternoon to make sure I wasn’t stealing any of Jimmy’s but I think I’ll be okay…
