Any modern external drive would be ok for the librarys. The only thing this external drive has to to is loading the set to the RAM.

Which means you’re far better off with the lightning fast read speeds of an SSD drives.

Thanks for all you comments on this. I have now sorted the issue with volume and routing the sounds back through TD 50 using Midi USB…. The problem was I’d plugged in to a USB 3 port which isn’t supported by TD 50 drivers, simple fix once I’d figured out my mistake.

Do you mean it has to be plugged into USB 2 port in order to get decent velocity volumes from the kit’s module?

As you search the forum you will notice this is the most asked question. Just buy a big *ss (external) SSD drive and install everything from the SD3 install manager. Personally I’d get a an external 2TB SSD drive and run all the sound packs from there.

Latency should not be an issue at all. He should be able to ‘follow’ the groove and play along with it without a problem.

I don’t exactly know how to recreate the sound in the software itself. I only know how to get it in the software while actually playing with the hi-hats closed (usually tip of the stick) and then slightly and quickly lifting my toes on the pedal in order to “loosen” the closed hats to create that choking sound.

There are more ways to achieve half-open or open sounds even with only using the foot without a hit with the stick.

It’s the choke sound you’re referring.

the open sound can be achieved with the hi-hats slightly open while hitting with the shoulder of the stick.

Being a logo designer I would probably be able to make them if they don’t exist.

Sometimes just a bit of patience and common sense makes all the difference in the world 😉

I’m glad it’s finally working and that you’re happy with it!

I think you can’t compare direct near sound quality of headphones with any kind of speakers. The only type of speakers that come close to headphones might be near-field (studio) monitors (ie. such as a pair of Yamaha HS8 with a HS8S subwoofer, which sound fantastic through a mixer with my Roland TD-50 kit btw).

In larger acoustic areas you should consider more continious power from a decent PA-system. Also, I don’t know how much outputs a DTX522 facilitates, but I think you shouldn’t use the headphone output of MBP either, but using a decent (amped) sound interface instead.

I think a fast external SSD and some RAM will significantly speed up yout sound patch loading.

I guess I still have the same issue.

Turning up velocity for all triggers in my TD-50 drum module doesn’t add anything for being able to play dynamically. I love all the settings in SP3 allowing us to adjust just about any trigger settings and Levels or Velocity parameters, just to name a few.

But I still have to take off my headphones when I select an instrument as all preview sounds (including all existing MIDI tracks played back) are set to full  velocity / volume levels.

Try ‘Articulations’ in Drums section and encrease the dB Level and or Velocity for the Closed hi-hat sound which you intent to change.

But then I’m wondering how on earth can a preset be made when every module might be set with a wide variety of different trigger settings. A preset update can’t change the trigger settings on a module.

Which leads me to the following question: should all the trigger sensitivity settings on a module be set to either zero or to their highest values ?

I’m curious about your trigger settings of your TD-30 module. As I can’t say the trigger settings on my TD-50 were optimized for use with SD3
