Thank you, I’ll give that a go. I think it’ll just take awhile to go back and forth between adjusting the pad sensitivity’s and recording in the DAW to monitor the velocity levels, and adjust them. I don’t suppose you know if Roland module is triggering @ 127 for hardest hits, will that be the same story in SD3 ? Thanks again, it amazes me how people get SD3 responding so well. To me the Roland module itself sounds great but to get SD3 playing with the pads like that would be incredible. Just gonna take a lot of calibrating I think. Cheers Mark 🙂

Sounds like the question in this case is, are you using one of the presets within SD3 or are you using a RAW unprocessed kit? There is a considerable difference in volume and dynamics between the two.

Hey dude, firstly thank you so much for continuing to help out – i’d love to get this sorted!

I’m not sure if I’m using the presets or not. For example, I was playing the Ludwig Classic kit which is an original kit with SD3. I can’t tell if I’m using a preset or not but there are effects in the mixer so I would assume so.

At the moment I’m just playing with the headphones cranked up and just making sure I turn it down when I do anything else. Maybe it’s just the nature of drums that are hard to record or something – but part of me now wishes I just bought software that was more plug and play!

I’m sure it’ll be worth it once I’ve figured it out. Adjusted the pad sensitivity on the module which has definitely made things snappier.

You know when you’re in the main window of SD3 and there’s the interactive image of the kit, and you can click on the various parts and it previews the sound? Well it sounds great there and is a good volume, it’s just when I play on my E Drums

It’s nothing to do with the module volume. It’s to do with the midi the module sends. If a hard hit is not generating a midi value of 127 then it will be quiet. The module is very forgiving on internal sounds with bad trigger settings but SD3 is very dynamic. I agree the base SD3 library is quiet but can be adjusted.

are you using the td17 as an audio interface? If you are have you increased the gain of the usb input? If not what audio interface are you using?

    Thanks dude,

No sorry, what I mean is, if I turn up the pad sensitivity on my kit, the levels will be off for when I play with the module alone (not superior drummer).

I’m using a Steinberg UR22 as my audio interface. So the TD17 in, UR22 out. Have put the USB gain on max and it’s still quiet.

What I mean is, I can open superior drummer and play and crank the output on my interface right up – but then if I play anything else on my PC it’s ear bleeding loud. Maybe I’ll just turn the pad sensitivity up on my TD 17 module and only play with Superior Drummer, not through the module itself.

USB input gain can be the issue. Watch this

    cheers

Yeah thank you, have it up full 🙁

    Ok so

It seemed like it was fixed but like the user above mentioned – it’s not using the whole dynamic range.

Also, when I use the Superior Drummer 3 original kits, it’s really quiet. I have to turn my headphones wayyy up. I’d love to get a fix for this.

You really should set up the triggers sensitivity on the td17 so that it sends 127 when you hit hard. Velocity curves can lose you dynamic range

Thanks dude but surely when I drum using the module, the levels are going to be wayyy off. The module actually is a good volume.

Fixed it with the velocity curves. Holy SHIT this software sounds good. I was hitting stuff at like 30 velocity before lul
