Ok, so now I’ve figured out how to record. You have to hit play and record. Now I can’t find the file I recorded it to. Should there be an MP3 file somewhere or is it always ezd.3p?
Also, I can’t hear any other system sounds except EZD3. I guess this is where a DAW comes in and I’m a complete noob with this. What I have been doing is just using a USB drive to record through my drum module on. I open BandLab in a browser and play along with it while while recording on the module for my drums. Then, I transfer that file to my PC and import it into BandLab. So, I’m assuming I need to import those tracks using a DAW. Cakewalk seems like it should work great since it’s owned by BandLab and just imports my library. But, I can’t get Cakewalk and EZD3 working at the same time so I’m back at square 1. As long as I have EZD3 open, Cakewalk or Reaper won’t connect to my drums. It seems like it’s some kind of midi conflict. Any ideas what I’m doing wrong here?
Apologies for sounding like a complete idiot here, but this is all extremely new to me. What I’ve been doing is super basic and adding EZD3 into the mix has definitely complicated things.
Got it fixed, but all I needed to do was restart EZD3. Should have thought of that first. Appreciate the attempted help 🙂
Thanks for the help. Appreciate it. It’s an Alesis Command. That’s the kit I have selected in the screenshot Brad provided. I tried changing the velocity, but that just makes it sound like a harder strike. Like hitting a ride cymbal harder with the tip of the stick. Not hitting the edge with the shoulder of the stick.
Well, with some more messing around, I got it to work. I had to choose WASAPI (Executive Mode) for the device type. Then, the output for my headphones worked. So, I think it’s working now 🙂
I installed Reaper and now have the ReaRoute ASIO driver in EZD3. I don’t know which ReaRoute output channels I’m supposed to use though. I tried all of them and I tried each individually. I don’t get any sound though. I can see the drums being hit in EZD3 though.
Thank you again. It’s definitely related to ASIO. I tried the other drivers and they worked, but the latency was awful. For some reason, ASIO will only play through my speakers even with my IEMs in the headphone jack. Seems pretty weird. I went through the manual and nothing is mentioned about this. My headphone jack isn’t in the list of devices when I open the ASIO settings, which makes sense of course. Realtek Audio is and it seems that should work fine. So, I really have no idea why ASIO won’t play through my headphone jack that my IEMs are plugged in to.
As far as audio interfaces go, I haven’t explored that much yet, but I downloaded Cakewalk. I found where to set up MIDI devices in it and my kit shows up, but when I select it I get an error saying there’s not enough memory. My PC has plenty of memory so I don’t get why it’s saying that. I’ve heard of Reaper and it’s certainly affordable. I’ll download the trial and see if that will work. Hopefully, I won’t get that memory error that’s in Cakewalk.
My goal here is to record drum parts that I then upload to Bandlab where I’m collaborating with friends. I’ve just been recording straight to a thumb drive on the drum module and then transferring those files to my PC. The drum sounds aren’t too great so I got EZD3.
Edit: I looked up the memory error. Apparently, it has to do with duplicate audio devices in my device manager. I removed them, but still am getting the same error. It’s getting late so I’ll give Reaper a shot tomorrow and I’ll email Cakewalk support to see if they can help with the memory issue.
Thanks so much for all the help. I haven’t even gotten to the latency part since I can’t actually hear the drums through my IEMs. I’m using ASIO just because I saw it recommended for Alesis drums. Do you happen to know of another I should try?
Thanks for the response.
Windows is just using the onboard audio. I didn’t have anything else to choose from.
EZD3 is using the ASIO4ALL v2 as the device under AudioMidiSetup>Device
What I mean by PC speakers is that I have my IEMs plugged into the headphone jack of my PC and all PC sounds run through them except EZD3. Those sounds are playing through the speakers on my PC and not through the IEMs. It’s really weird. I’ve never had something like that happen before.
I have an audio interface, but I thought it might be getting in the way. It’s a Behringer U-Control. When I use that, I just get the sounds from my drum module and not EZD3.
