usually for multiple apps to share the IO on Windows you need to either all run the same ASIO or use the shared WASAPI. most Windows compatible IO will let you use the WASAPI mode but some are very specifically only ASIO. depending on what you’re trying to do, like paly along with video, you could simply route your instrument into a channel on your IO and output that directly to your monitors (speakers / headphones) and let the recorded material play via the video / audio player software. if you’re trying to record your live performance, then things get a bit trickier as latency from the instrument, through the IO, and into the DAW (e.g.) and then back out (if monitoring that way vs direct), you generally want the audio and MIDI latency settings as low as possible before you start get audio or MIDI tracking issues (pops, crackles, buzzes, drops etc). so ASIO generally can be adjusted to get down very low — with the caveat that low latency settings increase the CPU and other utilization – so often times minimizing the # of effects during the recording is a good idea.

nice tip. counterintuitive from a user standpoint but it will help me avoid the merging nonsense… one thing i did find – you need to keep an eye on the humanise button – maybe i did it but when editing a couple of parts, it switched on, or that segment is assigned with humanise on? anyways turning it off returned me back to the normal editing

Thanked by: Granitzadefinitely! the chord bar and section bars should copy transparently across all of the EZ products (even the drums) so i can properly align all the performances. of course the MIDI will vary as expected. i find it annoying to have to recreate the chord and section bars in each product. this in my mind would be one of the most important updates that could be made, and since it’s somewhat agnostic to the MIDI, in theory not that hard to implement… hopefully 🙂
and also – EZD – stop merging the sections i don’t edit – also a very annoying “feature”

Thanked by: RtB01the plugins in Mac and Windows are wholly different code… so you wouldn’t be opening a Windows plugin on a Mac and vice versa… and running emulations of OSes is often a recipe for problems…
but if the issue is project file compatibility, that is something the dev team should look into as (imho) the project files should be OS/DAW agnostic.

if i drag my EZK MIDI into EZB, then all the melodies and chords are there and played (not always a great sound but it works that way). so if i do a careful EZK track with more melody and fewer chord (plus higher register mostly) then is can sound more like a pastorius or lagrene performance 🙂

does the Toontrack audio sender app work for this?

program data folder is an odd one – in general, the user (owner) should have access but sometimes, erm, no. best bet is to create a projects folder for project content (across all your apps) and make sure that the DAW, EZ, and other app folder in the program directory are given permissions to the user (you) and also check your anti-virus to exclude EZ apps & related files, DAW apps & related files, etc. as A/V apps have a tendency to also want to block file access based on “bad” behaviours.

in the edit play style UI – you can “thin out” the notes using the notes dial as a means of reducing the amount of hits within a given section of MIDI. split a busy roll into the length you need and reduce the number of notes to get some of the nuances (hopefully) of the player based notes (and why you’re not just writing the notes yourself). save those you like for re-use.

Thanked by: Granitzakeep in mind, MIDI guitar -> to synth — you must play really really clean. i turn down the treble and use the neck pickup so extraneous pick and other noises are not readily input, and if you do the file method, consider cleaning up the audio before trying to convert. another thing i do (when i’m not actually using a bass) is to use Melodyne and simple drop things an octave (or two) and clean up there and generate the MIDI from that. then use that with my VI.

Thanked by: rashadsultanif you record the guitar into a WAV file and drag that into EZB does it work? (vs using the audio sender)

+1 for Band In A Box (BIAB) which has a peer product called “Real Tracks” which is awesome as noted by DonTardif.
definitely do not limit yourself to a single tool or technique to get the job done.
Hookpad is my primary composition tool and use the MIDI export of the drums w/ some edits. Scaler is also helpful to add interest with chord voicing, riffs, and modulation ideas. I use the Toontrack products to create great piano and bass parts (again by re-creating the song structure in EZK and dragging that into EZB), and i sometimes use the EZD for the drums (although the Hookpad drum MIDI plus Addictive Drums are my go-to).
i use BIAB (re-create the song structure) and find a style i like (not even necessarily the same as the primary composition work), then use the Real Tracks to create solos – all kinds of instruments – keyboards, horns, guitars, etc played by top tier studio musicians. really a great way to top off a song with a hot sax solo or guitar solo performance…

my thought is: you need to install your products on the Mac. then if you’re sharing the project files – either use cloud storage to readily share them, or SMB connection to the PC from the Mac. i use cloud storage for sharing projects across my machines (not Toontrack though – but if i did i would install the products on all of them, in accordance with whatever license is approved).

thanks! i saw this late yesterday when i was creating a new drum track. once i’m happy with it i’ll play around with exporting individual instruments for the mix steps.
