they may have  blown the wad on SD3 – recording etc in a very expensive studio with expensive people over months… so the budget for fixing things on the EZ line may be lower than expected…

maybe it’s called EZ for a reason? 😉 that said, string selection is a key part of playing a real instrument, so it should be included — however — in defense — there may be some articulations etc which EZB has which make this harder to implement? dunno, but hopefully the next significant dot version will have it. in the meantime i use the MIDI…

i mainly use the Ample basses and guitars for this reason – much more flexible for selecting the right tones.

yeah, i basically only use the MIDI i export and a better quality VI to play it although some of the pops and slide things don’t always translate to those other VI.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall of the studio where the producer is telling the session bassist that he should play that bass riff on a lower string. 🤬🫣🤕

actually, it’s up to the producer and/or arranger to make that call. a lot of times you’re hoping the session pro has the instincts to do it in a way that benefits the overall performance. but sometimes an arrangement calls for different choices to get the tone just right, and can be critical in getting the mix later on to gel correctly.

of course if it’s a “modern producer” without knowledge trying to micromanage a pro, then it would be fun to hear…  “hey Leeland, can you play that riff on the low string” LOL

and definitely – all EZ products should have every note on the given instrument sampled. what’s the point of not doing it right the first time?

like the string hitting the neck – either on high velocity low notes, or if the note if damped. i hear it on a lot of sampled VST not just EZB. and depends on the note. i agree though, it would be nice to have the resonant sounds of a real string and the option to set noise levels (in any EZ product including the string clatter, fret noises, foot pedals, buzzes etc). for most people the extra realism is not a benefit and something pros spent years trying to avoid in [most] of their own recordings…

if you export the track using the DI setting and as a separate set of files, the DI is output as mono. i guess since this is my normal process, it never occurred to me to export as stereo as except as the default…

if you’re using EZB in a DAW track as a VI, then i’d say just set the track to mono and select the left or right output of the VI/

because EZD is not SD, there is a mixture of parts which can limit the overall ability to put each instrument on a separate pair in multitrack mode. so i tend to group the bass drums on one, snares on another pair, toms across 2 pairs, overheads on a pair, cymbals on a pair, etc etc etc and then any unused ones i put on very high number pairs to keep them out of the way. then if you have the option to create the tracks based on available outputs, then just remove the ones you don’t need. also, setting up both EZD presets and DAW templates can make doing this more than once easier in the future 🙂

i seldom use the audio export as the samples are not great (on any of the EZ products) because of noises, or muddy frequencies, squeaks etc. so i mainly use the MIDI and professional virtual instruments which let me add those “extras” in cases where i want them (like a small slide sound on an acoustic track to make a quiet part more “real”).

it would be nice given the investments TT made in creating these products, to have clean, high quality samples, and separate “extras” like buzzes and squeaks etc that can be dialed in or triggered etc when desired.

or leave the first measure blank as a lead-in. then if later you want to add something like an intro roll or other instruments, if not then export the audio track starting at measure 2 and line up as needed.

    so, a few steps:

    1. are the e-drums recognised by CW in the MIDI devices? if not, fix that first.
    2. are there MIDI notes triggering a MIDI track when playing the e-drums? if not, check the e-drum and track setting to make sure things like the channel setting etc match. repeating until you see MIDI activity.
    3. select MIDI track target as the EZD, or if using a drum map, select that.
    4. you should now hear something.
    5. is the Millenium 850 kit something which is listed in the e-drum list in EZD? i see that it does in my version.

as a note: i have a TD-3 kit and use my MIDIsport 2×2 IO since it doesn’t have USB. however, same set of steps.

using SSD should be a significant improvement. even the best HD has rotational latency and if there is fragmentation of the file contents (meaning it has to seek to other locations on the disk in order to assemble it) then the seek time (head movement) and the rotation speed (5400 vs 7200 RPM for example) results in “milliseconds” to retrieve a file. some tricks like large sector formatting and regular de-fragmentation can help keep things running as quickly as possible. for SSD, the internals are nearly as fast as RAM and only limited by the disk IO speeds (which nowadays will be 30K IOPs+) vs the HD which even 10K enterprise disks will be hard put to be more than 250 IOPs.

for content drive if yours rarely change much, then HD can be cost effective if maintained and formatted for larger sectors to enable smooth reads with minimal seeking. and being patient about load times 🙂 but once you go SSD there is really no going back…

I have extremely long loading time (as well as closing time) for Studio One Pro 6 when using it together with EZKeys2 (10-15 seconds each)

It is the combination with EZKeys2 that is the problem. It works fine with EZDrummer3, EZBass etc and other VSTi.

I wonder if any of the EZKeys2 or Studio One users here on the forum have had this problem and what might cause it and how to fix it.

I have now also tested it with Reaper it is the same problem extremely long loading time when using EZKeys2 so I guess the problem lies with EZKeys2

it looks like each plugin load is serialized so a 9.5 second load then translates into num plugin X single load time = 38 seconds…  running 4 instances of EZK, 3 instances each of EZB & EZD – project takes ~10 seconds to load. oddly it took nearly the same amount of time to close…

the CW simply allows the plugins to load at their own pace without tying up the main process thread. not sure it’s configurable but there is an option for “multi-threaded / load balancing” plugin support in the preferences.

i’m using Cakewalk by Bandlab, and a recording template w/ 20 instruments including Kontakt (has 3 including Hammersmith Pro) (1 each EZK/B/D), AD2, and more. template on new create takes about 15 seconds the first time. re-open the newly saved project – ~5 seconds. so it’s loading about 3gb of sampled instruments, recorded audio and purely VI. note, the way CW does it is to allow the background loading like Kontakt to continue so realistically i can hit play on a project with Piano in ~8 seconds. multiple SSD – project and content are on one, OS on another, and one is “cloud” services. project and content are using USB 3.1, OS is internal M.2, cloud is M.2 host unit on USB 3.1

if only using the EZK/B/D on a project, load is about ~3 seconds, time to be ready to play ~4 seconds.

HP Victus laptop, no significant optimization done w/ W11 Home. all A/V, cloud, internet, etc services are almost always running, large projects (>50 tracks and/or > 5 min) during audio render i turn off networking to avoid potential WiFi interrupts. A/V exceptions used on the DAW and related programs and files.

for me: SSD solved most performance issues over normal rotational HD. SSD even if the content is fragmented, there is no latency there (or it’s nanosecond) vs HD which if fragmented will have significant rotational latency issues.
