    See this thread: https://www.toontrack.com/forums/topic/macos-ventura/

BTW you’re thread title is misleading as related to the question in your post. A search through the posts here would have provided an answer without creating a new thread.

Will the moderators please merge these two threads?

Probably not as Ventura only dropped a couple of days ago.

    Jack,

Gotta say, love the Quark pic.  I am a huge Star Trek fan…all of it!  Your advice (and Mark’s) sounds like the ticket as long as there is no fidelity loss.  I don’t know yet how to route individual SD3 channels into separate Cubase tracks…but I’ll investigate.  Thanks!

    Mark,

I only drop the MIDI track into SD3 in order to bounce wav. files.  Otherwise I keep the MIDI file in Cubase.  However, just as a MIDI file on a VST instrument track in Cubase I don’t have the ability to “Render in place” as I know I can with other MIDI VSTs.  I’d be very grateful if you gave me the quick pointer on how to set this up.

I really appreciate you both for taking the time!

    Brian

I don’t use Cubase but the operation to route outputs in SD3 is pretty much the same in most daws. Create an audio track in your daw and set the input of that track to an output of SD3. Take care about routing mono or stereo outputs from SD3 to your daw – a mono output of SD3 would go to a the input of a mono track in the daw. Same thing for a stereo output from SD3 – that goes to a stereo audio track in the daw. Make whatever adjustments to levels necessary, record arm the audio tracks in the daw hit record in the daw and after a while you should have the audio output from SD3. Note that you may have to set an end point in your daw so the transport knows where to stop. These are generic instructions – adjust for Cubase as necessary. Basically this treats the audio outputs of SD3 lkike any other incoming audio in your daw. Or like recording the output of any other softsynth to an audio track in your daw. No fidelity loss at all.

As to the Quark thumbnail – always been a Star Trek fan since back in the original series. The only series I didn’t care for was the one with Captain Jonathan Archer (forget the series name).

    Brian:

I was suggesting putting the MIDI in your daw to drive SD3; I don’t ever put MIDI in SD3. What I didn’t mention because I didn’t think it was important was getting stuff back out of SD3. I treat everything in SD3 like I would real drums and that is to NOT use the SD3 mixer as much as I can. That means each kit piece or group of kit pieces gets sent to a mixer channel without any effects and then into my daw where I use whatever effects I have there. For instance kick drum gets it’s own outputs(s)/track(s) to a track in Pro Tools. Same for snare, hihat and so on.

Or you could go into your key commands in your DAW and change “del” to Ctrl + delete or Alt + delete. That adds the safety of deleting a track in your DAW by accident while editing in your DAW and deleting Notes and tracks with “DEL” in superior drummer.

Unfortunately not all daws allow key customization.

    Okay thanks!!!!

Though I couldn´t find those links, I went back into the Program Manager, and noticed something in RED saying the AU not installed!!!!

So, I clicked on the update, which gave me a new installer that opened a window saying Mac AU plugin. I clicked on that, it installed, and now everything works.

    Thanks again.

    Best,

    DiCarlo

Glad you got it figured out. That’s the thing with some installers – one misstep or mis-selection and something doesn’t get installed particularly where you have the option of doing a custom install. That’s why I gave you the places to look – something to keep in mind for the next time a plugin goes missing. Like I said the main library folder may be hidden by default in the latest versions of MacOS (that could be why you couldn’t find them).

Make sure that SD3 has focus and NOT Logic.

Yes, of course I tried starting the computer several times. It´s still not showing up in my DAW.

First the obvious question: did you let the installer put the program and plugin in the folder the installer wanted to put them in? That’s important. Since you’re using Logic I’d imagine that it’s using au format plugins. If so here’s the path to look for the plugin:

    MacHD/Library/Audio/Plugins/Components/

In here you should see this file: Superior Drummer 3.component.

For completenous sake here are the paths for VST and VST3 plugins:

    MacHD/Library/Audio/Plugins/VST

    MacHD/Library/Audio/Plugins/VST 3

Note that the Library folder may be hidden from view; use Google to find out how to unhide it. The Library folder referenced here is NOT the User Library folder but the main one on one’s system drive.

Why not just drive Superior Drummer from the MIDI track in your daw? That’s assuming the MIDI file is there.

    Hi,

if the pads are working with the internal sounds but there is no MIDI notes being sent when trying to Learn, I’d check the MIDI settings (from the manual):

    1.
Press DRUM KIT to go to the Main Screen.
    2.
Press EDIT INST. The top of the screen will show the
number and name of the Kit whose Instruments (drum
    voices) you will be editing.
    3.
Select MIDI (F2). The top of the new screen will show the
    trigger Voice you are editing.
trigger by pressing NOTE CHASE then striking the desired
trigger. Alternatively, you can highlight the Voice (next to
the Kit number) using the CURSOR UP / DOWN buttons
to highlight it and use the VALUE UP / DOWN buttons or
    VALUE DIAL to change it

    BR,
    John

Even before doing this I suggest downloading and running the free utility called snoize. It’s a great utility for helping to diagnose possible MIDI problems. Run it standalone and it will show you the MIDI messages coming from the e-kit. That will let you know if the e-kit is okay or not. Hit each pad separately and check that messages are being sent.

Hello all. For starters, I am running: iMac 11.6, Logic Pro 10.7.4, a Focusrite 18i8 2nd Gen, and the most recent Superior Drummer 3 update. I have an Alesis DM10 MKII Pro kit that I am running in via a 15 ft USB cable into my computer’s USB hub.

I have two e-kits both exhibiting the same issues, that being that the Kick, Snare, and Tom 4 pads are not working at all in SD3. Have attempted to ‘Learn’ the pads, and I must be doing something wrong as they are just not registering at all. The pads themselves are fine, because this is the exact same issue as I experienced with my previous Kat Percussion kit.

Would running this via midi cables instead – as opposed to the USB – resolve this issue? If not, what would you suggest?

When you say the USB cables are going into your iMac’s USB hub are you talking about a physical hub that is separate from the computer? At 15 feet you’re right on the hairy edge of max cable length which is 5 meters or roughly 16 feet 5 inches and that’s with a good quality cable. Factor in the length of the cable going from the hub to the computer and that could be the reason you’re having problems.

I’d suggest this – lose the hub if you can and go direct from your ekit to the computer and change to a much shorter USB cable. And only connect one ekit at a time. Download the free MIDI utility called snoize. Run it in standalone and it will/should show the messages coming from your ekit. Check that those message are what you think they should be. This will at least rule out that your ekit is the problem and put the blame pretty much on your setup.

All this being said I’ve never been a fan of MIDI over USB. Especially if it’s a mixed system of 5 pin MIDI and USB MIDI.

You could click elsewheres in the gui but if the point of the video is to show something being edited (like the drum in question) it can’t be done. Why would you want to do that anyways?
