I see that depending on the stock library kits the ambient channels have bleed level controls for cymbals but that’s not the direct feed from the cymbals. The only direct feed for the cymbals that I see is/are the overheads mixed channels. Check the mixer routing to see that nothing weird is going on.

    Which library?

Where are you turning the ambience down – it’s bus or what?

Cakewalk.  I’m able to have several windows open, but for some reason when I have the SD3 window open, then click the synth button on the track to show EZBass, the SD3 window closes, and the EZBass window opens.  I haven’t figured out how to have them both showing at the same time in two different windows.

Like John said that is managed in your daw and NOT any Toontrack product. A simple Google/Duck Duck Go search turned up this link: https://discuss.cakewalk.com/index.php?/topic/32651-having-multiple-plugin-windows-open-at-once/

You’re going to have to decide for yourself how to set the velocity curves. There’s no right or wrong but what works with your ekit triggers and your playing style.

Hi, I am routing Superior Drummer 3 to Logic Pro...

    Hi,

I am routing Superior Drummer 3 to Logic Pro X. Ideally I would like to separate ride and crash symbals but that doesn’t seem to be supported. Hence, I want to send less of kick, toms, snare and hi-hat to the bleed (OH) to control the symbals better.

BUT the faders on the right hand corner do not respond. If I deactivate all instruments the OH is still playing all drums. When I slide the volume bars, nothing happens.

    Any clues?

Are you saying that the faders in the bleed control properties (on the mixer page) for the overhead channel are doing nothing (they don’t work)? That shouldn’t happen. You can just toggle off the bleed from each kit piece in that box for the overheads.

Sorry I did not see this reply.

I have windows 10 home edition. My library is a external HDD path. Hardware setup is just 2 speakers, an Alesis V61, and a Scarlett 2i2.

My best guess is randomly it loses where the path was, and crashes trying to load the core library. When I turn off the External drive, it loads fine, but then I turn the HDD back on and set the path again. That is the only weird part of the setup probably

What connection is your external drive using? If it’s USB turn off ALL power savings measures in Windows Control Panel especially for USB ports. By default, even on a desktop computer, Windows is set to turn off the USB ports after awhile.

Are you asking if you can have the same MIDI mapping and velocity in your custom map when you change drum kit presets and have that as your MIDI mapping etc. without issue and extra work? Did you save your custom mapping as a preset in the MIDI in/edrums tab? I customized the GM MIDI preset and that’s my default for everything – I can change drum kits presets without issue. At worst you may have to switch to your customized preset when you change drum kit presets.

I’m still new to this whole process so forgive the follow up questions. Can you please provide steps for how you did this? So it sounds like you are saying I can indeed save my mappings/velocity and still be able to switch to other presets without having to do them again? What are the steps for this? Still trying to get used to navigation and all.

Go to the MIDI in/edrums page, select a preset and customize it to your liking. Save it under a new name and use that preset when you need it. You’re missing a point in the question I asked – are you trying to use different drum kit presets?

My workaround in Cubase is with one midi track per drum instrument i.e. snare, hi-hat, kick etc. and those midi tracks are filtered in Cubase to each only receive the relevant midi information from the e-drum midi triggers. The outputs of those midi tracks all go to Superior Drummer 3. So let’s say the kick is C1 then even though all the midi tracks go to the plugin on the same midi channel, if I want to just redo the kick drum part with a punch in without writing all the other data on the parts I want to keep ie. snare, hi-hat etc. all I have to do is only enable the recording of the Cubase midi-track for the snare. This filter has to happen before the Cubase midi track and is possible in Cubase but a long time since I used Logic and I am not aware of this level of midi data control at the input of a midi track a per track basis. So this is the ability to punch in and redo a part of the song, and do it on a kit piece by piece basis.

Nice! Not so lucky in ProTools. I can only filter after recording using a split-note-to-new-track process. At least not with the PT version I’m using which is two years old.

By restricted I meant you’d not be able to use aax format plugins (if you use Pro Tools) as Avid doesn’t allow wrappers or hosts for aax format plugins. Not everyone that uses PT installs every plugin format. Besides hosting third party plugins could compromise SD3 stability. I’d rather have SD3 do what it does and have my third party plugins in my daw. That way I don’t have to keep SD3 open and taking up ram and cpu cycles once I get my drum tracks where I need them. I treat SD3 like I treat real physical drums. Render it all out to audio and mix away. I don’t do any mixing in SD3’s mixer.

Nice but not that easy to implement. You’d be pretty much restricted to au and vst plugins anyways.

I would just do it in Logic and not SD3. Any real reason to not do it that way? Copy/paste might work and would be easier than playing the part again. That’s how I’d do things.

Yep, I got all working proper again!!!! Made a factory reset on the TD-27 and built up a new fresh scene in GigPerformer and voila everything works fine!!! Sometimes it just needs something fresh. And . . . Please don’t ask where I made the mistake. . . . . 😉

Congratulations on getting things working again. Like I said I was lost as to how to go any further. The only thing I didn’t suggest was what you did with rebuilding things in the Roland and Gig Performer. And no – I won’t ask how you did it. Just chalk it up to a ghost in the machine that had sport with you and I.

As a heads-up about Gig Performer – I don’t know how much you know about things but Plugin Alliance has removed almost everything related to the program. The only existing page I could find is this: https://www.plugin-alliance.com/en/brand/deskew.html
