Hallo i recently upgraded SD3 from ED3 as I wanted...Hallo
i recently upgraded SD3 from ED3 as I wanted to use a second drum module to extend my drum set. I am using a Roland TD-27 connected to a Focusrite 4i4 via midi cable into my laptop. This is working perfectly so far. I still need to set up the midi notes correctly but apart from that im happy.
Now I wanted to set my second module up. An ATV ad5 which I connected via USB directly to the laptop. When I look into the midi settings, SD3 recognizes the ad5, but no matter what I try, hitting a pad isn’t triggering any midi notes in SD3. If I open up the midi mapping in SD3 and hit a pad connected to the ad5, nothing shows. The pads on the TD-27 work properly and show the midi note hit though. Midi channels are 10 on all parts and settings on the modules seem correct.
I am not sure what I am missing and I cant find anything on the internet that helps me getting it to work. May be anyone has a solution and can help me so I can set up the second module?Thank you
Flo

Operating system: Windows 11Hi Flo,
Could you please post screen prints of;
Settings > Audio/MIDI Setup: MIDI Device
Settings > Audio/MIDI Setup: MIDI Channel
Have you tried setting MIDI Channel to “Any”

The OP is on Windows so Mac instructions won’t help. Here’s a link to working with MIDI in Windows. I figured that since MIDI was working ok with the TD27 that Flo knew this but it never hurts to point to help.

What do you mean by ‘SD3 recognizes the ad5 but you can’t trigger any notes’? How is SD3 doing that? The first thing I usually tell people when dealing with MIDI issues is to grab a free MIDI monitor utility such as MIDI-OX (for Windows users) and snoize for Mac users. Install it on your computer and run it in standalone mode and it should tell you exactly what MIDI is getting to the computer.
Being that you’re using USB for the connection go into Windows Control Panel and disable ALL power savings measures. By default with Windows that even on a desktop computer the USB ports are set to turn off after an unknown amount of time.

The simplest thing would be to use separate tracks for each articulation. I’m sure there are other ways but that’s what comes to mind off the top of my head.

You don’t understand – to make changes that can work in more than one SDX the main page is NOT where to do them. Should be done in the MIDI IN/edrums page.

Nevermind – I found it going through SD3 itself.

Had you changed something then as you should not need to touch anything midi on the main page. I have never changed anything there.
I think something else happened the OP isn’t telling us about. I never change any MIDI on the main page. That only works for the preset & kit in use at the time and no others that I know of.

ZIP and post your preset and your drum map as well. I haven’t had any mapping issue with D&D either.
jord
Same here as D&D is my go-to SDX and I run a customized GM mapping which works everywhere. I wonder if the issue is the OP is using MIDI cc’s instead of actual note numbers?

Try loading your edrum preset again or load one you use for the standard library and see if that works. I don’t see this problem at all in D&D so it’s not the library.
That and the OP is doing the programming in the wrong place. Should be done in the MIDI in/edrums tab. I customized a preset there that I can use in any of the SDX’s all with the same triggers.

Not to be pedantic but there is no such thing as a KBM switch – it’s a KVM switch. Keyboard/video/mouse

I’m more referring to running cables to a separate monitor: one for power and one for video. Or one cable if you can find a decent USB-C powered portable monitor.
Do people still used wired keyboard and mouses still? Regardless, still a hassle to move them which is why a touchscreen would be preferable. The KBM was a minor point.
Sometimes Sidecar works reliable. Other times, it freezes after a few minutes and I have restart it.
At any rate, I think the user experience is pretty solid with RME TotalMix Remote, Logic Remote, Studio One RC, etc. Something along those lines for SD3 would be great.. IMO.
With a Mac you can have multiple mice and keyboards at the same time. Keep one at the kit and another at your computer. I run dual mice here no problems.

Also turn off any bleed and surround controls/channels.

It’s not the amount of data but the latency in the system when WIFI enters the picture. You don’t need a cable for the computer keyboard – use Apple’s built-in system. Actually if this were my setup I’d re-arrange things so you could swivel around on the drum throne to your recording setup. Sort of like Neil Peart’s concert setup with the acoustic and electric kits all around him. Or get a second monitor set right so you can see it from your kit. And leave it there.

Thanked by: Bear-Faced CowNull tests mean NOTHING. Every little seemingly insignificant thing in level or frequency content can throw off a null test. Even slight timing differences can throw off a null test. In short Shakespeare had it right: ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough. That you have to do a null test to find any difference means you’re wasting time that no one will ever hear in a mix.

Jord, I’ve looked at the audio spectrum of my bass and the kick. You’re right about them fighting for the same seat. I don’t mind buying an SDX with the ideal kick for my songs. Can I send you a song so that you can hear what I’m dealing with?

I’d look at Death and Darkness especially the Death part. There’s double kicks there. And that SDX is not just for Metal or heavy music either.
