Wish I had a concrete answer for your problems but welcome to the wonderful world of SD3 MIDI mapping presets being messed-up. I had to re-write the GM mapping preset because ToonTrack has the rack toms mapped wrong – they don’t recognize that the GM mapping has 4 rack toms and not 3. Their factory mapping ignores GM rack tom 1 and has something else mapped there. The high rack tom mapping in SD3 is mapped to GM rack tom 2 (not 1 as it should be) for instance and on down the rack toms. I wouldn’t be surprised that the other drum brain mappings are wrong as well as you’ve found out.

As a long time PT user I think it will be up to PT’s usage of multiple cores as I don’t know if they ever took care of that. It’s always been loading up one core and not spreading things out.

Hi,
what is the origin of those MIDI files? There is no built-in MIDI file properties editor in SD3, I could think of a workaround but only if it were a few odd files.
BR,
John
My question exactly. Every MIDI file that I’ve ever gotten from the web does not have ‘thousands of bars’. It would be great if the OP had another way he could see what’s in the files like a General MIDI synth program as used in a daw.

I think there is some confusion about how I use the cloud. Everything is still on my computer. It is just in the cloud folder so that any changes can be backed up to the cloud. If something goes sideways while I’m away from home, I can access my information and bring it back to my computer.
jord
Understood. It still remains that I don’t trust the cloud either way. I don’t travel so I’m good there.

I don’t trust the cloud – never have and I’d rather not depend on having a solid internet connection. That’s why I have a physical iLok. That being said I make backups/clones of everything at least once a week to separate external drives – one for the system drive, another for session, one for samples and a drive that has all my installers. Believe me having those clones has saved my life a couple of times one of which was an Apple security update that bricked my computer.

Sure, the minor issue was that all of a sudden I was asked to enter my password whenever I was moving files from folders to desktop, or to another folder, or move them to trash. I’m talking about mp3’s, PDF’s. When I called Apple I spoke to 5 Senior Advisers; they had me do some things with terminal and have me reinstall Sonoma, and that’s where I couldn’t get in my desktop anymore.
Are saying that you are unable to log into your user account? Just trying to clarify
jord
Exactly as to my reading and the OP describes it he had 2 separate issues. Being asked to enter a password for doing certain things in MacOS that’s been a thing for as long as I remember.

When you reinstalled Sonoma that’s when you lost your user presets. As to being asked to enter your password to do certain actions that’s not a problem – sometimes I get asked that and it’s no big deal. I enter my password and get on with life. Those senior advisers were wrong unless your system was totally ruined. You are essentially starting from a completely new setup. Short of possibly using a data rescue service you’re going to have to re-create your presets. This issue is a prime reason to always make regular backups of your system. As much as I hate to say this but you might want to invest into a separate drive to do Time Machine backups.

Your user presets are located in your original user folder. The path was set by your settings. You need to be able to access your user folder as an admin and not a guest. if you don’t have access to your original account, then you will have to get to it using the terminal and copy it out. Are you not able to reset your password?
jord
Unless Apple changed something there’s no need to resort to using Terminal. In High Sierra I can login to my wife’s user account and pull data from wherever in my user account. The only issue is the OP would still need his user account password to finish the deed. For info purposes how would you use Terminal to do the deed? Never heard of that one.
I am curious about something – I know the authorization for SD3 is on one’s computer but is it tied to the original user account only?

Missing user presets aren’t the only thing you’re going to have an issue with until you can get back into your original user account. You probably have other things on your original user account that are missing like authorizations and such. That being said the path on my machine is (my computer’s name is Beethoven): High Sierra Beethoven/users/Beethoven/library/application support/toontrack/superior 3/presetsezx and in that folder you should see a folder for Superior Drummer 3 which has a subfolder named s3presets and your user presets should be in there. You can set the folder path in SD3. But I still say you should get back into your original user account and work from there.
I have to ask what was the ‘minor issue’ you had that caused you to go to Apple for help? Whatever Apple did should NOT have locked you out of your original user account unless you fouled that up somehow like forgetting your password? I have my computer set to automatically log me into my user account without entering a password.

Getting ‘locked out’ of your desktop has nothing to do with the user presets. Exactly what happened to get you ‘locked out’? You have to be logged in to the user account you used originally because that’s part of the path to your user presets.

Rush had plenty of people behind the scenes to do the work. For anyone of lesser calibre there’s nothing but the people on stage. Your average band playing a gig doesn’t have that kind of oomph behind them. They don’t even have people to do cartage for them – they schlepp their own gear. Been there/done that. I would NOT trust a computer on stage.

Oh hey Mark, yah I figured I would post here as well to see if anybody had a solution. And yes drumjack, would need to remap all three midi notes for toms. I think the takeaway here is that SD3 is not intended for live edrumming use. It’s not desirable to have to spend time on your laptop swapping out midi map presets on stage in between songs, and then back again. And this in addition to the time it takes to change drum presets only with the mouse/touchpad in the menus since there are no keyboard shortcuts. A VST host could work.

Agreed that SD3 isn’t really made for a drummer who’s band plays different genres. More for what one usually sees on stage with one drummer who has one kit. If you’re looking for a vst host take a look at BlueCat Patchwork.

Thanked by: Tom ConnerThanks guys! It sounds like you are both describing going into settings and manually switching between user drum map midi presets when using this library and switching back when done. In other words, a single drum map can’t be used for this library that works with other libraries – including Hitmaker Machines which has the regular four rack toms. Is that right?

If you do that keep in mind that the rack toms actually have 3 notes assigned – center, rim shot and rim only. IMO TT should have left the notes ‘out in the ether’. As I mentioned the MIDI mapping leaves a lot to be desired especially if you use General MIDI drum mapping. Imagine pulling a loop or sequence off the web that uses GM mapping and the rack toms don’t sound right especially if what you pull off has 4 rack toms.

Not trying to be sarcastic but one way to solve this is by remembering to NOT hit rack tom 3. But seriously try changing the mapping in the SDX itself. I know TT says to not make mapping changes there because it would mess up things if you played the stock grooves. What I did here because of the way that I work and use General MIDI mapping is to write a custom MIDI preset that properly does the mapping as the GM mapping TT has is wrong as regards the rack tom mapping. GM mapping goes on the basis of 4 rack toms and TT only maps 3 and those are wrong. I use that mapping for the stock library as well as Death & Darkness and I never have a problem with tom wrong hits in any of the libraries.
I would look at the mapping for Hitmaker on the main page and make your changes there.
