I’m on mac Sequoia 15.1 and the latest SD3 version, yes I’m talking about the Audio/Midi Settings in SD3, so thanks to Petter for the confirmation, it’s no big deal, I was just unsure if this was normal or a bug.
Thanks for the update/clarification as we weren’t sure if you were talking about the mixer in SD3 or what.

Contact loss with the audio device does not happen in Mac OS when changing buffer size.
The result seems to be the similar, even if contact is not lost, when it comes to the output channel settings (in Settings > Audio/Midi Setup). It is as if you selected a different audio device then went back to using the first audio device again. Not sure exactly what is happening in the background, there.
What I’m saying is I’m not seeing the change in SD3 mixer output when I change buffer size. I can shutdown my audio interface and restart it and there’s no change in the SD3 mixer output routings so communications loss doesn’t seem to fit here. What we don’t know is the OP’s operating system and SD3 version.
edit for additional: Just checked the OP’s information and it seems he’s on some version of Windows so things might well be different there.

Thanked by: Petter AdstenNo. What’s your operating system and SD3 version? In MacOS no change to the mixer output.

I’d love to see Toontrack go to iLok. End these proprietary licensing systems that serve to do nothing but hurt the end user. With iLok you can move it to whatever machine you’re using. Heck even VSL went iLok. You don’t even need a physical dongle – there’s iLok Cloud.

Thanked by: log0utYou need to have a drum instrument in Reason to be able to play the MIDI from SD3. Reason uses MIDI channel 10 (if they haven’t changed that). I know Reason used to be a competent GM (General MIDI) sound engine. Also keep in mind that the MIDI in SD3 may not be mapped to the correct kit pieces in Reason. That’s because SD3’s MIDI mapping ignores the MIDI spec of 4 rack toms.

The exact answer depends on external connections and that’s something you have to figure out on your own. The best general answer would be to get an external ssd and enclosure and put your samples on that connected to the fastest connection you have on the computer. Another thing is to keep in mind that you have an option in SD3 to load everything to ram or to stream from the samples drive. With 16 gig of ram you’re kind of ham-strung. You can never have too much ram.
The problem with your setup and this is with any system that has everything on the system drive is you only have one pipeline for data. The current Apple Silicon Macs are supposed to remedy that to an extent but I’d still want to have separate drives for samples. I run an ancient 2012 MacPro desktop with and SSD for the system drive that’s on the motherboard, a separate ssd for samples and a 7200 rpm spinner for sessions. 30+ track load times can be around 30 seconds or so.

Do you really need to have all 3 computers authorized at the same time? If so then you’re going to have to by another full SD3. Don’t overlook any SDX’s you have as well.

This thread has shown why this forum needs a PM or private message function. Any answers that I would post here would not go over well for the general public. I’m outtta here.

Thanked by: zenwarlordAnd I call it a company knowing its business priorities. That’s not lazy programming. Considering the nature of the instruments we are using, I’d hardly classify any of their programming as “lazy”.
jord
What I’m calling lazy programming is the programming of this website. And that is totally different than the programming of the instruments. Should be totally separate from each other and you’re conflating the two.

Thanked by: zenwarlordhehe damn, the jedi mind trick worked on me the first time unfortunately. The only reason I figured it out was it being inexplicable to not have a forum search function at all, so was the only thing to try. I presumed “View all Results” would be more, less relevant products.
But you do have a good point that it is a shop website first and foremost. I am more used to tech sites like Anandtech (RIP) with rather separate forums. Or just forum sites themselves.
Perhaps just a rewording of “View all Results” to “Include Forums” or even “Advanced”
Using google to search the site is also a solution.
Cheers all.
Amen. The ‘site’ operator works on both Google and DuckDuckGo as well. Just because this is a shop website first doesn’t excuse not having the basics of having an excellent and functional search facility. There’s no reason this site’s search engine has to be what it is. I call it lazy programming.

Thanked by: zenwarlordJord: I guess you don’t spend much time on other forums like the DUC or Gearspace. The search function on the DUC is way better than what’s here. When at their ‘advanced’ page you have all kinds of ways to specify what you’re looking for from the get-go. If I want to search for a user – I can do that easily. And so on. Also here there’s no way to send a PM to anyone. There’s been many a time I’d like to do that with someone but I can’t. This forum s/w could do with a rewrite.

Thanked by: zenwarlordThe forum search and site search our unified. By going to the advanced search page, you can select forum posts, and they will show your search results.
jord
Where is the advanced search page? There is only one search box with no mention of going to an advanced search page. This is endemic of the less than user friendly ‘features’ of this site.

Thanked by: zenwarlordWould be nice but I don’t think it’s technically possible given the way things are setup. You can’t call up a preset for an SDX unless you are in that specific SDX. One of many backwards things that mars an otherwise stellar program. There’s so many things that would make SD3 perfect and more user friendly.

There is no specific search box for any of the forums. Just the whole site. Would be great if there was but I don’t think anyone at Toontrack thinks it’s necessary to have one.
