James: I would take the drastic step to wipe clean the computer, reinstall Windows and go from there. That’s the only way to really be sure that any gremlins are gone. Really – only 400 gig free on a 2 TB drive? That’s ridiculous. Your computer guy did you no favors. There’s something that’s screwing up your audio for sure. Does your computer have a built-in audio I/O? That’s what might be screwing-up the audio.
Crashing every 20 minutes or so? That’s not right at all. If I could look at things in person I could probably figure out what’s happening and remote admin/access won’t help. I don’t know what kind of relationship you have with your builder but I would NOT trust him at all. There’s a lot of tuning that can be done with a Windows machine. There was a website run by a fellow that goes by the name of Black Viper that had some really great tips and tricks for fixing Windows install. That Toshiba Satellite I mentioned ran Win95 and I got the ram load (ram in that machine was 1 gig) for the operating system down to right around 100 meg (not a typo). There’s SO much garbage in a stock Windows install that you don’t need it’s not even funny.
I wish this forum had the facility to do private messages between posters. I have the feeling there’s some things going on that I can’t discuss them here.

Thanked by: James GardinerHi Jack. I am using windows 10. The log in only appears on Superior drummer, the interface itself has a dialog box pop up and it asks for email and password. I am not using it stand alone, only in Cakewalk. I have the license for about 20 midi packs but the previous owner has about 50 or more on there. No audio from anywhere else.

I have never had to do any kind of login in SD3. The only login is for the Product Manager. There’s a question I asked and you didn’t answer – do you have a license for SD3? Try running SD3 in standalone mode. Do I understand you right and you’re not getting any audio from anywheres on your computer? From any program? Are you by any chance allowing the systems sounds to access your audio I/O? Are you using a regular audio interface or what? Try disabling the system sounds and see if you get audio from Cakewalk. Windows doesn’t like to share the audio I/O between programs. It can be done but as I haven’t had to use Windows in ages (I’m on a Mac) I don’t know that method. BTW my first daw s/w was Cakewalk Sonar on a Toshiba Satellite 1955 laptop decades ago.
Unless the previous owner transferred the licenses over to you you’ll not have access to anything he put on the machine – only your own stuff. You’re going to need his password and email to de-authorize his previously installed s/w. There actually is a way to get out of the mess you have but you’ll need to take a trip through the Windows Registry and that ain’t a job for the faint-hearted.

Thanked by: James GardinerWhat’s your operating system? This login that you’re trying – is it for the Product Manager? Are you trying to run SD3 standalone? You do have your own license right? Are you getting audio from anything else on the computer like your daw? Uninstalling and reinstalling won’t help.

I submit you’re dancing on a dangerous edge omitting various obw files. You didn’t answer questions I asked and that is what is your main computer? Laptop? If so then why not just use that for this new project? And is this a long-term project that would really need a second computer? I can see why you’d want to leave your main machine at home but if there’s no long-term possibility then why spend the money for a new computer?

In short – no. Why not just keep the stuff you’ve already recorded in Logic and put SD3 on a track like you would any other VI (virtual instrument) and build your drum tracks there?

Thanks for your answers so far.
It is indeed for a live project in Ableton Live.
I would need 2 kits from SD3, Decades and some Percussion on a new second computer. My main computer holds all my SD3 libraries (aprox. 500 GB), but the kits I wanna use live is only about 10-20 GB. I don‘t wanna buy a Mac with a huge SSD, because I will just use it for this live thing.I know the procedure with the custom install for SD3 core library and I already got rid of all the Surround and high surround files.
But I did hope I could further reduce the installation size to make this work on a 256GB SSD. Too bad…
I would go with a bigger internal drive. You never know when you’ll want or need that extra space. You can never have too much money or too much drive space. I have a 2 TB ssd for my samples that’s three quarters full. Never thought I’d get that much on there and now wish I’d gotten a 4TB ssd. My drives are internal to my Mac Pro desktop. Luckily I can change the drives myself – can’t do that on a new Mac laptop and that’s the thing with them. Either way you go do pay attention and not just for drive space but also ram.
Your existing computer – laptop or desktop? If a laptop I’d use that instead of splashing on a new machine unless you think your new endeavour is going to be long term.

There’s no documentation that will give you what you want. Those 2 custom kits – are they from just one library/SDX or spread across different ones? If just from one library/SDX then you only need to have that library/SDX on your system. This live project – are you talking about the daw Ableton Live or for live playing? This new Mac – is it a second computer or what? If a second computer where are your SDX’s stored on your first/other computer? If they’re on an external drive you could just move that drive to the other computer assuming both machines have the needed connections.

Have you tried purchasing using PayPal?
You should be able to enter your VISA/MasterCard when purchasing with PayPal without creating an account if you don’t have one.
The payment method shouldn’t matter as this error message should popup before you get to the actual payment screen. You have to enter the code first before going to the payment screen. It could be something as simple as entering the code by hand or being in a country that doesn’t allow the code.

Did a test and it worked for me. Did you do a copy/paste of the code or did you type it in manually? Try doing a copy/paste.

You’re talking about playing them from your e-kit right? Check your velocity curves.

I have a Roland TD-50. When I play the snare lightly, I can clearly hear an open hi hat. When I record this sound shows up in the midi editor in Protools and I can hear it. It’s certainly easy enough to delete, but how do I get rid of it? It hasn’t always been there. When the Roland set is plugged in through a PA there is no crosstalk between the two instruments, which tells me that I have some setting in SD3 triggering that open hi hat sound. Thanks in advance.Chuck

Do you still have the same problem if you use SD3 standalone? The first thing I tell people to do when there’s a possible MIDI problem is to grab a free utility like snoize and run it standalone and play your kit and see if it’s sending what MIDI message you think it should be sending. If things are as they should be then the problem is elsewheres. You say there’s no crosstalk when playing through a PA but is your setup the same as it is when going into PT? Small seemingly insignificant differences in the physical setup can make a difference in crosstalk. Your rack may be setup the same but what about what said rack is setting on? How hard or soft is the surface – hardwood floor, drum riser, carpet, some kind of padding? Also make sure the MIDI preset you’re using in SD3 is correct as some of the presets have mistakes in them.

Miroslav: Be thankful we have sliders for panning instead of knobs like on a real mixing console. Panning is one of those things you really don’t need direct entry of numbers. Yeah it’d be neat but there’s other things that need fixing like better documentation for SD3. Or fixing the Product Manager so one can update all programs/libraries at one time. BTW what does your daw program do for panning – knobs or sliders?
Take something from what real producers/recordists do and that is to work by ear and not eye.
