You mean those “change path”, or “add alternative library path” options in the product manager?
I’ve already tried that several times and it won’t work.
    “invalid library”.
Tried it from both the product manager and from superior drummer 3.
Or do you mean I should uninstall my sd3 products first and then reinstall them?

There’s no need to uninstall if you’re installing to another drive but you could do that and see what happens.

Do the install from the Product Manager and when it asks you where to install point it to the drive you want to use. I really wish you could at least answer how the ssd is connected and how it’s powered as that might be what’s causing your problems. You really need to get conversant with your computer hardware as often the problem might not be what seems obvious.

When you say SD3 products what exactly are you talking about? The program itself, the core library or what? As far as the core library it looks like you’ll have to be doing a complete library download and install. To quote Metallica: sad but true.

As far as the ssd what signs are you seeing that the drive is failing? I ask because it may not be the drive itself. How is the drive connected to your computer and how is it powered? If bus powered it could well be the computer bus power itself. Have you tried changing the interconnect cables? They can fail without warning. I’ve had cables fail just by sitting and getting used but not moved. Just had a monitor display cable fail just like that.

I get the same thing here – you are not missing anything. SD3’s gui isn’t changeable and it shows the kit pieces used in that preset and placeholder ghosts for piece that aren’t used in that preset. That you get sounds in the ghost pieces doesn’t matter.

As far as what you’re seeing in the first picture that’s normal as the default kit only has the pieces loaded that are not greyed out; that you get sound is only an artifact and not considered part of the default kit. Greyed out/ghosted means there’s no official kit piece in that slot. Now for your second picture – why is Avatar in your program file directory? That’s no place for sample sets. Move that to your d: drive in it’s own folder.

Yes DrumJack, I installed it. Its obvious it did not install. I am trying to reinstall it.

    Thanks!

You have to install it after downloading it. Just downloading via Product Manager doesn’t automatically install it.

You did install it right? Is SD3 pointed to where the library is? Downloaded to Product Manager doesn’t mean anything unless you install it.

There’s no recommendation for the actual moving process other than to point SD3 to the new location. As to the process itself just drag the folders holding the SD3 related files (except for the program itself) to your new drive. After you do that open SD3 and see that everything works okay AFTER you point SD3 to the new location. Once you do that delete the files in the original location and empty the trash.

Hi all, I recently installed SD3 to my local drive...

    Hi all,

I recently installed SD3 to my local drive (MacBook Air M3, 16GB RAM) with the plug-ins running off a Samsung T7 SSD.

However, once I open Reaper DAW (V 7.28), SD3 crashes immediately. I get a notice that says “Superior Drummer 3 quit unexpectedly”.

Can anyone please help diagnose a solve for this? It happens every single time and it’s incredibly frustrating. These two programs should be able to run side by side no issues — so just trying to determine what’s the problem here.

    Hi there,

Just to clarify, you a running SD3 standalone, when you startup Reaper?

If yes, have you tried in the reverse order?

Does SD3 run ok as a plug-in within Reaper?

What audio interface are you using, if any?

    Hi Brad,

Yes, I was running Superior Drummer 3 as a standalone application alongside Reaper. It seems to be working now but occasionally depending on what I have going on (e.g. was running Musescore notation software concurrently) it may crash.

It runs perfectly fine as a plug-in within Reaper. Haven’t had any issues there yet. No audio interface, just editing existing tracks.

You must run SD3 either standalone OR in your daw but not both at the same time. You have to have an audio interface no matter what you are doing elsewise you won’t hear the results. And I’m NOT Brad. BTW your quote is all wrong – you have my name on something I never wrote.

@drumjack52 — My response was intended for the previous individual who replied to me. You’d have noticed it was a mistake if you scrolled up — I’ve since gone ahead and corrected my post.

An audio interface is not necessary in my workflow as I’m not using any hardware to program the drums. I’ve transcribed them myself and converted this into a MIDI file which runs inside SD3. Either way, thanks for the thoughtful advice.

If you don’t have an audio interface then how are you hearing what you’re doing? That doesn’t make any sense.

Did you install all the plugin formats? Did you use the Product Manager? Is there a Toontrack folder in your Applications folder? That folder should have a subfolder as a shortcut to Documentation, Superior Drummer 3 itself, the SD3 manual and the Toontrack Product Manager application. Double clicking on SD3 in this folder opens it in standalone mode and I’d suggest to try that first. If that works go to the Library folder, double click on the Audio folder there in, then double click on the Plugins folder therein. In there you should see a folder called Components that has the au format plugins on your system, a VST and VST 3 pair of folders that have the vst format plugins. If you installed those formats you should see SD3 in there.

A thought just occurred – did you authorize SD3 in the Product Manager? That message you got usually means the plugin is not authorized.

Congratulations on rebuilding your  computer’s software. As to the seeming authorizations issue I’d get with support and see if they can help. It could be seeing the second authorization try on the computer as a 4th one. There is a search box at the top of every page but it isn’t all that visible. There have been a lot of digital bits spilled on the search function and it’s lack of functionality so you’re not the first to mention it. Ordinarily I’d suggest learning to use the site: operator in Google to search but from the way this site is run it makes external searches a bit of a fool’s errand. I mean you have to have an account and be logged in to even just read posts. What other site does that?

The reason I’ve been told that the search engine is what it is is because the site is mainly a portal for selling things and not disseminating info like being asked about here. There’s little energy or will being expressed to change that it seems.

Something I learned a long time ago was to keep all my downloads on a separate drive so if/when I need to reinstall stuff I have it at hand. Nothing fancy needed for such a drive – a 7200 rpm spinner of sufficient size will do the job. I’d go for a 4TB external drive. High performance isn’t necessary for this job. Watch as many YouTube videos on Windows reinstall that you can. And be patient – don’t try and do everything in one day. What I would do is the Windows reinstall first and make sure that all runs as it should. Then the Apollo drivers and see if you get audio from any YouTube video – that will tell you that you got that right (and don’t forget to disable any on-board audio interface that may be on the motherboard). After you get that working then go onto Cakewalk, then SD3, etc. But again – one thing at a time. Install and test before moving on to the next install. And reboot from time to time.

I feel your pain about doing this on a relatively new computer.

James: I would do what Mark King says and wipe that machine clean. If for nothing else than having a clean soul as who knows how legit that installed software is. I get the feeling that Captain Jack Sparrow built that machine (if you get the reference).

A full reboot won’t help – you’re going to have to do a full reinstall of Windows and get rid of all the excess garbage it seems you have on that machine. That drive – is that your only drive? Are you storing samples on it? Where are your Cakewalk sessions being stored? You really need to dig in as to what you really have in there hardware-wise. Was this computer a custom build or something off the shelf and your computer dude mucked around with it?

If it was my computer I’d wipe it as clean as I could and reinstall Windows and only the programs that you really need. As to how much space you should have free that all changed with ssd’s; it was the old spinner drives that you needed to have some excess space. Generally you could back in the day go to 80% full before worrying about space.

I have a separate drive for the system and programs, another for samples and a third for sessions. That way if one drive dies I still have the others.
