Strange indeed. Don’t remember exactly what’s what in Windows-land but in MacWorld if I save something to a new folder in the path set for a plugin’s presets it will show up in a ‘user subfolder’ of the ‘user folder’. All accessible to whatever program/plugin it was saved for. No new path having to be set in the plugin. There’s so many oddities in SD3 it ain’t funny and I can’t believe TT hasn’t sussed this out or run into it. Makes me think the beta testers aren’t really stressing things as they should.

Based on your guess of 125 I’m thinking a power of 2 is involved. If so I’d take a leap and say it’s 127 – go over that to 128 and things go bonkers. Is it possible to save to more than 1 location/folder?

One way to find out if it’s the number of instruments is to take a few out (say maybe half) and see how things works. That would give you an idea that it’s the number of instruments saved. Then add some back in and repeat. I mentioned the renaming thing wondering if that was part of the issue. Did you have this current problem before going through your renaming process? Messing with one part of the file might have screwed up something unintended.
Another thing to try – can you fix the issue with one preset and if so does it reoccur with that now fixed preset?

I’m a little confused – is the second picture what comes up in the kit when you go to load it instead of the regular looking rack tom in pics 3 and 4? Or what? That exclamation point is what I’ve seen in other programs when a graphic file is missing or the program has lost the path to the file you want. I wonder if this is related somehow to the issue you had with renaming user pieces?

Vegas is what I use. I only use Acid when I need drums. It’s more than adequate for my needs.
I could never go back to using either of those programs. Good for their time decades ago but now – not so much at least for anything I do. You’re a better man than I am for using them.

I solved this (at least in a way that works for me). I open the stand alone version of SD3 and lay out my drum track. Then I apply the velocity fade as suggested above. When I’m satisfied with the result I drag the faded track from the stand-alone SD3 into Acid Pro 11. The velocity fade-in works great. The only caveat is that I have to go back to the SD3 stand-alone if I need to make any changes to the velocity fade-in. I was hoping I could do all this from right within Acid Pro 11, but apparently it’s not sophisticated enough.
Thanks for everyone’s help.

Not to be snarky but as I said before – you need a real daw – that simple. Acid was never meant to be a real daw program. It’s essentially abandonware and I’d suggest hitching your pony to something else whether it be Pro Tools, Cubase, Digital Performer or whatever. Yeah it’d be a paradigm change but well worth the time taken if you’re at all serious about what you do.
As I mentioned elsewheres Acid was ok as a loop machine but as to recording – not so much. It’s like racing in the Tour de France on a 3 speed Huffy versus the machines they run nowadays. Imagine climbing Mont Ventoux in a Huffy. Yeah you could do it but you’d be beat to death way before then top of the hill. The closest thing Sony came to a daw was Vegas.

That’s what I was thinking. Just fading the volume in isn’t going to cut it. The intensity has to increase, just like a real drummer.
I would have thought that everyone would want to do something like this at some point.
Exactly. Been there/tried that and had to use the 2 outlined methods except that I do my MIDI tweaking in my daw (Pro Tools). What I would like to know how many velocity levels are in the SD3 samples? The thing I’ve found with SD3 is to treat it as you would real drums with regards to playing and mixing (provided your ekit – if you use one – allows it).

The thing to keep in mind is that when a drummer does volume swells – not only does the volume of the sound change but so does the timbre. You have to emulate both. So it sounds like (ouch) you’ll have to use both approaches.

Glad you got it all sorted and that things are working as you want. Happy to help out a fellow SD3 user.

Thanks John and one thing I’d like to add is to make a copy of the file BEFORE editing so you can go back to what it was beforehand. Or at least make notes as to what you changed. Don’t rely on a restore point to get you back to where you started.
Nice to know I can still suss out a software issue from time to time even at my old age (73).

wish I had thought to name them in a more organized fashion in the first place. Very frustrating and utterly disappointing for something so basic to not work as any human would expect given the cost of SD3. Oh well, live and learn. hopefully the next release will fix this along with all the other quirks people have been screaming about. Thanks!
No problem. As you mentioned there’s a bunch of stuff that needs fixing not just your renaming thing but the other renaming thread mentioned, updating multiple products at once and my personal pet peeve – really poor documentation.

I’ve looked all over my system and can’t find any cache folder related to SD3. Keep in mind that I’m on a Mac and I believe you’re on a Windows machine so the folder structure and location will be different. The only cache-related thing I see with SD3 is in the performance tab on whether to load all into ram or not.

Not knowing the exact programming SD3 has but I’d take a WAG and say it’s something in the metadata of the preset. You can change the preset name in the folder but the metadata in the preset itself that denotes the preset name to SD3 doesn’t change. Haven’t done serious programming in a while but that’s what I guessing is happening.

I agree it makes no sense but it is what is is and we can’t rename things and have SD3 see those renames as one types it. BTW there are NO screenshots in your reply. But it’s still the same thing as the other thread. To be specific when you right click you’re not saving an instrument per se but a preset.

Can’t be done. There’s a thread around here on just that that goes back a few years with people asking to do just what you want. And it’s been radio silence on that from Toontrack.
