Jord, I’ve downloaded the Logic Pro 11 session player maps for EZ Drummer 3 from the post above, but I’m not sure where to install them. When I go to  /Library/Application Support/ToonTrack/EZDrummer 3/ I see several more folders… see attached screenshot.

I dropped the session player maps into this folder and started Logic Pro 11, but couldn’t find them. So, a couple of questions –

    1. Is this indeed where the session player files go? In the root Library and not the ~/library correct?
    2. What specific area in Logic will they appear?
    3. If this is not where they go, where should I put them?

Thanks for you help. This keyboard/DAW newbie appreciates it!

I lied! I had reservations about the Akai from the moment I purchased it. Not that I thought it wouldn’t work fine, but I couldn’t shake the feeling there was something better out there. I don’t care about portability being strictly a bedroom musician, so instead on get a “tweener” at 37 keys, I moved up to 49.

I returned the Akai unopened and purchased a Novation Launchkey 49 MK4. It arrives today, but viewing the online videos, I’m already convinced I made the correct decision. Finding it on sale for $209 sealed the deal!

If anyone is interested, I’ll report in after a few weeks.

Jord, I downloaded the Logic Pro 11 session player maps for EZ Drummer 3. The folder in which the post tells me to place the files doesn’t exist on my machine. To keep things clean, I’ll post my questions about it in that topic’s thread.

    Thanks again for everyone’s help!

Well stated, Jord; and good advice. I’m currently working my way through a Logic Pro 11 course, but I found a deal on an Akai Professional MPK Mini Plus. So, I pulled the trigger. It will fit nicely on my desk and seems to have enough features to educate me when (if) I feel the need to upgrade.

I appreciate everyone’s contributions to this topic. Thanks!

Thanks for all the feedback! I appreciate you all taking the time to share your knowledge and experience. I think I’ve narrowed it down to two keyboards – one if I go big and one if I go small.

    • Go BIG – Korg Keystage 61-key
    • Go small – Arturia KeyStep 32-key or Akai Professional MPK Mini MKIII 25-Key

Really the decision is do I want to take the time to invest in becoming a keyboard player (taking time away from guitar), or do I just need an interface to work more efficiently in Logic Pro. I’m pretty sure I’m going small. The two small choices are inexpensive enough they doesn’t rule out getting the Korg after I’ve had a chance to learn on the Arturia.

Thanks for your reply! I had shortlisted the Arturia KeyLab 61 mk3. I also have looked seriously at the Novation 61SL MkIII

I think either would be ideal if they had polyphonic aftertouch and MIDI 2.0. Should the lack of these two features be deal breakers? They sound like features I would want and use, and I really only want to by a keyboard once, so future-proofing is important.
