    Hey guys,

I just want to tell you, that I finally figured out how to do it and since it was such a hustle to find it out, I wanna share it with you, so that anybody who wants to do the same setup as me, doesn’t have to go through trial and error.

So if you wanna use your TD50X (important to have the upgraded version cause the TD50 can’t do it) as an interface and MIDI Controller and use SD3 to send sounds through the TD50X Direct Outs here’s how to do it:

    1. Set the USB Audio Mode in the TD50X to “Vendor” and install the drivers for either Windows or macOS from Roland
    2. Set the Audio Routing to “Loopback” (this option is only available in the TD50X
    3. Open your DAW with SD3 and route the single instruments (kick, snare etc.) to the internal SD3 channels of your choice (I chose 3/4 Kick, 4/5 snare etc…)
    4. Now Create Audio Tracks in the DAW for the single instruments and assign the designated inputs from SD3 Plugin
    5. As Output for the audio tracks now you have to do the following:
      1. Direct Out 1 is Interface Output 5/6
      2. Direct Out 2 is Interface Output 7/8
      3. Direct Out 3 is Interface Output 17/18
      4. Direct Out 4 is Interface Output 23/24
      5. Direct Out 5/6 (Stereo) are interface Outputs 9 – 16 (Toms 1-4)
      6. Direct Out 7/8 (Stereo) are interface Outputs 19 – 22 (Crashes)

As you can see the routing is quiete confusing, and as you can imagine it took me a while to figure it out. I guess it has something to do with rolands internal routing, but if you do so as I did, it should work just fine. Maybe there is a way in the module to change the internal routing, but since I got it to work this way, I won’t even bother to try 😀

I hope with this step by step soluation I can help anybody who has the same issue. If you got any questions don’t hesitate to ask me.

    Cheers,

    Christoph

    @Mick

I was trying the whole day yesterday to get it working but it seems like theres no way to route the SD3 sounds to Rolands DirectOut. No matter which output i chose in ableton it only sends to main l/r or sub l/r. I’m kinda frustrated right now cause I also don’t find any info that it doesnt work that way, so there is still the possibility that I’m doing simply something wrong 🙂

I was asking Roland support but they weren’t of any help…

Let’s see if the weekend helps to get it figured out or if I just go with the aditional audio interface setup.

Any good solution here? I wann do the exact same thing. Using SD3 and put the sounds on the TD50X Outputs without using another interface. anybody who could solve it?

Thanks for the answer. If I would buy another audio interface or digital mixing console I could use it as an Interface instead and use the TD50X only as MIDI Interface. But honestly I hope I can avoid buying another interface cause basically the TD50X has every output I need. I just have to be able too route them correctly 😀
